Family history can be fascinating. Our neighbour has a very French
surname but his family have lived in the UK ever since his great (x5)
grandmother was driving back to the family chateau in 18th century
France and noticed her husband's head impaled upon the gatepost. She
instructed the postillion to "drive on - with all speed", came over to
England and stayed there.

It certainly is fascinating. I have been researching ours and found that
My DH's 9th great grandfather was Sir William Crich. Lord of Crich. born
1500. The ancestral home was Stubben Edge hall in Ashover.
My DH descended from the female side of the family so no title for us or
money either. LOL
