Thanks for the reference, Peggy... I saw it on the cover of a book, stating
that if one learns the counterpane stitch, they can make the mittens in
their book... I've looked through all MY books and can't find it.......

Yarn over, insert hook through stitch, yarn over and pull through the stitch and the yarn over, yarn over and pull through the two loops on the hook

I'm not sure that the stitch is actually named the "counterpane stitch", it look more like a reference to making single crochet stitches looser.
