Happy Dance: new pic to see
I finished my first, but definitely not my last, ghost layers quilt. I love
this design technique and the foolproof transparancy effects. Click my URL below to come see. It's the first quilt. -- susan kraterfield see my quilts: http://members.cox.net/kratersge/ |

Nested Disssection facinated me. Do you have a full view - I would love to
see the pattern! I didn't follow all the math involved (it's been a LONG time since my last math class) but I often used formulas to design my lts - that is until I got hooked on applique (LOL) -- Cheryl http://community.webshots.com/user/witchofthewest cawaites@netconnectDOTcomDOTau "catsatararat" on Yahoo msgr "Kraterfields" wrote in message news:BvU7f.13130$v_5.13111@dukeread07... Wow, Susan, that is a gorgeous quilt.
I *love* transparency effects, and this one is stunning. .. In message BvU7f.13130$v_5.13111@dukeread07, Kraterfields writes I finished my first, but definitely not my last, ghost layers quilt. "Nested Disssection facinated me. Do you have a full view - I would love to see the pattern! " Here's the pic she's referencing: http://members.cox.net/kratersge/dissect2.jpg You really are seeing basically all the "pattern" in the quilt. I'll try to draw in ascii here and explain better without recourse to math jargon. The pattern is a 4-block checkboard with an L-shaped frame around the lower left corner. Like this: ## ##### ## ##### ## ##### ####### ####### ####### ############ ############ There's no forcing of symmetry -- you can split the 4-block into different sizes, as long as the # parts are still square (the blank parts would be oblongs). The blanks are black in my quilt. Now, if you impose this 4-block/L-frame pattern on the 2 littler ### squares, you end up with a tinier version of this pattern within that smaller rectangle. The actual quilt has done the algorithm 4 times. To find them in the picture, look for these colors on the "L" part: The outermost L: medium orchid. 2nd L: darkest orchid -- there are 2 of these Ls 3rd Lale orchid -- there are 4 of these Ls 4th L: gray -- 8 of these w/ little solid carnation pink 4-block checkerboards I anxiously await some feedback on *this* incarnation of an explanation. If finally someone understands it, I'll put it in my website. I've struggled to explain this to people forever. Makes me feels stupid that I can't explain. susan kraterfield see my quilts: members.cox.net/kratersge |
