Default Quilt Labels

I've only been making quilts a year and a half so I haven't done many, but I
whip stitched them on after the quilt was finished. I have printed labels
including photos using the kind of fabric that you can run through your
computer. Now that I have my Janome 6500 I have done very simple
embroidered labels using the alphabet stitches on my machine. I don't have
an embroidery machine or I would use that for labels.

I never did label the two I Spy quilts I made for my grandchildren but I
still plan on making labels for them. I figure better late than never!

Those of you who do quilt labels.... do you put it on after the quilting?
If so is it just whip stitched on?? Or do you sew it on to the backing
before quilting????? Sad to say.... but in 12+ years of quilting... I have
never labeled a quilt....

the label is always the last thing I do, because I find it does not look
neat if you quilt over it... usually you cannot determine, from the
front, where the quilting lines will fall and most likely they are going
to be random in the label and sometimes make it harder to read. OK, I am
anal, the first reason is the real one.
