Book Review: The Beader's Palette
The Beader's Palette: Rings, Necklaces, Bracelets, Ensembles, Earrings and
Straps. Ondori/Japan Publications. Lists for $19.00. I asked my Barnes and Nobles to order this for me on approval since I wasn't sure about it. The good news: the pictures are lovely (if too arty to be good instructional models) and the designs are lovely as well. The bad news: the instructions are not lovely. The instructions for each piece are in the back of the book, in black and white. Seed bead sizes are specified in millimeters (I'm kind of assuming a 1.4 mm seed bead is an 11 and a 1.9 mm seed bead is an 8, but I haven't measured to be sure). Thread paths are not clearly shown and are contradictory -- in one diagram the arrow for the thread path appear to be going counterclockwise and clockwise simultaneously. That said, I think an experienced beader could figure out what you should be doing with lots of flipping back and forth between the pictures and the instructions. I took some mental notes but I'll spend my $19 on beads instead. Elise |
