Default Online Order, Fabric Substitution Standard Practise?!?

I ordered 6 yellow fabrics from patchworkpalace.com which arrived
today. There seems to be 2 substitutions, one of which I'm really
annoyed about because it's in quite a dark orange/peach colour,
nothing that could be compared to yellow, what were they thinking?!?

Is it standard practise for online fabric shops to do this without
letting you know first? They have my contact details so I don't
understand why they couldn't let me know that they didn't have the
items I wanted in stock.

It is my first time shopping for fabric online which is why it was
such a small order, and it's put me off a little.

Contact them immediately and explain you do not like the substitution they
have sent you. Explain that you were not aware they would send a substitute
without notice and you wish to return it. When I first made an online order
in the UK and the shop did not have exactly what I wanted they rang to find
out what I wished them to do. So I guess it really depends on the place you
order from. Hope you get this sorted out soon and they will take back their
bad mistake

I've not ordered from them mail-order, but I have visited their shop,
and found the lady who runs it to be most helpful and friendly - I can
only think that either she was having a major "off" day or that it was
a minion that filled your order...

If you can get to the Northampton area the shop is well worth a visit
- especially if you combine it with a visit to the stately house in
whos grounds the shop is in - we came home with 3 perfect peacock
tail-feathers from their 12 resident peacocks!

Its also only a few miles down the road from The Bramble Patch -
another excellent find (we spent a small fortune at both of them a
couple of weeks ago whilst playing hookey from work...)

Most of my fabric buying has to be online. Sometimes the order form will ask
if you would like a substitute or if they don't have as much as you've
ordered, do you want whatever they have. The Tattered Rabbit did me in once.
They didn't have the fabric I ordered so they waited six weeks and then they
did send it. Phooey. I was well past needing it by then.
Most of the time - really - almost all of the time, online ordering
works just fine. Do let them know that peach will not do and send it back.
Don't let this get you dismayed with online S.E.X. I think they must have
just been having a bad day. Polly

I order on-line frequently and have never had anyone substitute a
fabric. On the rare occasion when they are out of the fabric I
ordered they either refunded my money or sent me the fabric at a later
date.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences with online ordering. It's
good to know that this isn't a regular occurance.

I contacted Patchwork Palace and they were very helful about my order.
The lady I spoke to seemed a little miffed that I'd been sent
substitutions without being told that they were out of stock first, I
heard her ask someone in the background if they had packed
replacements in an order sent to me. I was told to send back the
fabrics and they would refund me the cost including postage. All in
all I was pleased with the way they dealt with me.

Suzie B... Yes I have visited the shop but it was rather late in the
evening so I didn't get to go round the grounds, but from what I saw
it's very beautiful. You're right about the lady working in there
being helpful and friendly.

Howdy!
Good deal. Just as they should have handled it.

Last time I ordered from Stitchin' Heaven, a shop east of
Dallas, they e'd to say they were sold out on one fabric;
I asked them to surprise me w/ a substitute; very satisfied I was.
They asked, first!

Except for --- *HERE IT COMES AGAIN* VBG
Hancock's of Paducah, I've had happy success w/
my on-line fabric orders. (H-of-P is in the "sucks" column
of on-line businesses on my list. G)

So, Michelle, what did you get?
We stash raiders need to know. g

Glad to hear things have worked out - and next time you're going to
visit, ask them when the tea-rooms are open - we got there around 2pm
in the afternoon on a Friday, absolutely starving as we'd been held up
in traffic on the M1 and hadn't eaten lunch, to find that the tea
rooms weren't open...

....but I did get my peacock feathers!

I'm collecting yellows at the moment to make a quilt for my brother.
I haven't got a deadline for it so I'm just taking my time getting the
materials, which is a good job because yellow seems like quite a hard
colour to get hold of.

This is the link to the quilt I hope to make:

I like patterns that look like they have curves even though they
don't. Perhaps because I haven't done curves yet.
