i have ripped my new 100% nylon (polyamide) ski pants. what is the best
way to repair the rip? sewing, glueing ...?? it doesn't necessarily need to be wash proof, or even that water resistant, just strong. thanks |

This type mend keeps the fabric supple, unlike iron-on glue type patches. Large tear, same areas: Might make a contrast patch to go atop the tear, with a matching patch on other leg/arm/etc., so patch looks like a design feature. Vertical tear close to a seam: such tears can often be worked into the closest seam. Seam stitching will be opened, and torn edges worked into the seam smoothly, so there is no bubbling or pulling of fabric edges. Seam is then re-sewn. This type mend is the least visible. Cea |

Whatever method you use, you'll get better long-term results if you sear the edges of the fabric where you're doing the repair. To sear, use a utility candle. Bring the edge of the fabric close to the bottom of the flame (but not touching) so the heat just slightly melts the edge. This will prevent the fabric from fraying so the mend will last. Do not get too close to the flame; the entire thing will go up in a puff! -- Kathy - help for new users at http://www.aptalaska.net/~kmorgan/ Good Net Keeping Seal of Approval at http://www.gnksa.org/ OE-quotefix can fix OE: http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/software/oe-quotefix/ |
