Glue for Glass to Metal -- At my wit's end...
Hey,
I have been attempting to glue silver bails to fused glass and I have had nothing but problems... Tried superglue... got brittle and they basically fell off. Tried Goop... got rubbery and they basically slid off. Tried 2 part epoxy... seemed good, but even the slightest 'torque' pressure and they snap off. I am at the complete end of my rope. Both the bail and the glass were abraded and clean. I want to weep. Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong?? Andrea |

[Try clear 100% silicone rubber caulk. Make sure everything's clean first; use denatured alcohol to degrease, and let that dry before gluing (don't touch it after degreasing). Don't use too much, because it's easy to make a mess, and let it set overnight before stressing the joint. Do this in a well-ventilated area, since the acetic acid fumes from the rubber are somewhat unpleasant. I've had pretty good results with Goop as well, but you need to work quickly with that stuff; it skins over almost immediately, which might be what happened to you.] Andrew Werby www.unitedartworks.com wrote in message ... Try calling an auto glass repair shop.
They have special glass adhesives that are used for attaching rear-view mirrors and such to glass. One of those might be workable. Also try to find a way to attach it with mechanical means -- bolts, screws, tabs, soft rivets, prongs, bezels, etc. -- mbstevens |
