Well we don't seem to mind designers posting info about new
patterns/freebies. I wouldn't mind this one so much except that all
their stuff is machine embroidery and they never say so in their
posts.

Yes, but most of our designers don't post with the frequency of these
people, and have genuine freebies or informational sites instead of a
purely commercial site. Most of the designers here also contribute to
the general conversation and knowledge level as well, which I would say
gets them a pass to self-promote on occasion. YMMV.
