Default Hi! I'm new here and fingerprints...

Hi!

I'm a bead jewelry artisit and just started dappling in PC. I love it!

Does anyone know the best way to avoid fingerprints or indents?

Thanks!

Hi Barbara,
Welcome to the group.
There is a load of great information about anything PC related at
www.glassattic.com . Basically tho you will find you can avoid getting
them on your work to begin with, remove them before baking or removing
them after the piece is baked. After you read glassattic you can decide
which methods makes the most sense for the way you work and what you are
working on.

Diana led you to Glassattic--the big repository of Answers To Questions.

but the short answer, from me, is----moisturize your hands, clip your nails,
and you wont leave NEAR as many prints/indents to have to remove.

Have you ever tried the method of erasing prints by gently brushing with
a paintbrush? I did, perhaps I didnt do it long enough or forgot a step
but it seemed to be an exersize in futility.

I HAVE done that, it needs to be exactly the right brush---heavy enough
clump of bristles but also not HARD bristles....it works best on Cernit for
smoothing seams, little ridges. You can also dampen the brush , then dry
most of it off, just enough to make the bristles clumpier/heavier. I
useually use my little rubbertipped shaper tool tho, much more effective at
the scales in which I work, which is not SO teeny as some.

I've done it my just the barest drop of water of my fingertip and
lightly stroking over fingerprints.

Cheers,
Carla

I have been making lots of beads, and these are the things I do:

I roll the bead around on my marble surface when I am finished with it,
prior to putting it on the mandrel for baking. This smooths out a lot
of marks as well as a helping to even out the form.

I also have set up a system for tumble sanding my beads; I have
invested in four double barrell tumblers. I followed Desirees's
recomendations on
tumble sanding
(http://www.desiredcreations.com/howTo_TLTumbleSand.htm). My beads
look infinitely better than before I did this. In my opinion, if you
are going to do any quantity of beads, this is the way to go. No way
would my hands allow me to sand all my beads by hand!
