Crocheted Wire
I'm just starting a website and am looking for some feedback. I crochet
with wire and incorporate all types of beads from semi-precious stones and pearls to Swarovski Crystals. The site is still under-construction. I need to link my thumbnails to detail views and add items to categories that are currently blank. Its my first try at a website so let me know what you think. Dragonswire http://www.dragonswire.com Seems slow to load, and I'm on a high-speed line. You might try having just 8 thumbnails per page instead of 16. You said you were intending to have full size images of all your stuff, which is good. Love your work, I want to see it close up! You have a few broken links where the link is pointing to file:///C:WEBSITE/DRAGONSWIRE instead of http://www.dragonswire.com. These are at Necklaces3, Bracelets, and Sculptue & Masks. The full size image of Amethyst and Peridot doesn't come up, probably because there are spaces in the name. I'd like to see an identifier on each page, like at the top where you have "For Purchasing Information Click Here" you could say "Dragon's Wire by Linda Hawkins" and then say "For Purchasing Information Click Here". Aside from those kinds of issues it looks good. Your work is very pretty, and the photography is good, though it would be better if you adjusted each image to make the background a consistent brightness. Something good for search engines is to put a description of each image in the 'alt' keyword. Finally, some kind of blurb about Dragon's Wire seems in order. The name is good, but it makes me want to know something more, like how Dragon's Wire was once worn by Viking queens of yore, or some such romantic nonsense. Or you could be a bit more practical as in this website http://www.golden-knots.com/. ___ DMGreer, LLC www.luxefon.com |

I'm not sure what my problem is with this site-- others on AOL seem to be able to see it; Peter had a few suggestions, but, except for two dragon pictures at the top of the home page, they didn't change things for me, either. I'm not having problems with seeing other graphics-- occasionally a "red x" shows up, but "show picture" brings up the graphic. The most likely cause seems to have something to do with my firewall-- Norton's, if that matters-- and/or its combination with AOL 9.0. Every time I loaded the site, I got a warning from the firewall program that something was attempting to access my computer-- and it was high enough "risk" that I wasn't given a choice whether or not to accept the access. Since I use hubby's computer, with his USNR stuff, finances and some confidential patient info on it, I'm not going to mess with changing or disabling the firewall settings. Dragonswire http://www.dragonswire.com Me again. From what other people are saying, it seems like you need to use something besides Microsoft Word to do your web pages. As a software developer, I would advise you to avoid Microsoft software when possible. Take a look at Trellian Webpage at http://www.trellian.com/webpage/index.html. I just downloaded their evaluation copy, and it looks good. There's also software specializing in creating web galleries, like http://www.express-soft.com/etc/, or Google on "thumbnail creator" to see more options. ___ DMGreer, LLC www.luxefon.com |

Everything worked fine, pages downloaded quite quickly and all links worked.
I tried it on an older version of Netscape (Communicator 4.7) and MS Internet Explorer 6. I am only on dial up so the download time was fine. The only thing I didn't like was the time it took to download the enlarged pictures, I would get fed up waiting. The file size was far too large. Chris |

Dragonswire http://www.dragonswire.com Fascinating work. but big pictures! I don't know about you, but it puts me off to have to move the picture side to side to see the whole thing. Maybe just large enough to fill the screen with close-ups of certain sections to show detail?
