Okay, now, I use www.individual.net, and I haven't gotten any such
notice.

Coming out of imposed lurkdom to ask if anyone else has heard from
their NTTP provider(s) that usenet is closing down the entire
rec.crafts. textiles (.whatever, in this case .yarn) ??
I received 4 notices yesterday, from each of the NTTP servers I use.
Back into imposed lurkdom,
Noreen

No, but it wouldn't surprise me. There's no money to be made off of
us. All the pr0n and warez leeches are where the money is these days:
binaries or bust is the new news services motto.

It wouldn't be "usenet" closing it down, however, just some providers
not carrying the feeds anymore. Any change to the usenet hierarchy has
to be approved by a vote, doesn't it? At least that was the case for
many years of my participation, which began almost 20 years ago.

I use news.individual.net and I haven't heard anything about closing
r.c.t.*.

I would think that is is "hear-say" Maybe it is a good idea to not
believe everything that is posted on the internet. Use your own common
sense and that will get you a long way.

When I open Newswatcher, to access RCTY the message I get is a list of new
groups that have formed.

I use sympatico in Canada, and they advised me that they were charging
extra for newsgroups, and as I did not pay the extra, they all
disappeared. I am now trying to use Google for NGs, (does it work?)
but may also switch to cable for high speed (and for the phones as
well?) Bell are really doing a bad job in this part of the world.

I don't use them as a provider other than using the LAN in our home
wirelessly. We have never used them for e-mail or whatever. My DH has
never wanted to try switching our e-mail as address is very widely
available in print and changing it would be an immense issue. I
could, I guess but don't really need to switch.

I am using comcast for the newsgroups but have never used the e-mail or any
of their other stuff. I only use the access for internet and the
newsgroups. Works great.

Google is ok - I switched when AOL stopped carrying newsgroups. I also
use cable for
high speed (Comcast in my case) but not yet for phones. Judy

Why don't you use Comcast of newsgroups?
