more on Flying Geese!!
http://www.fabric-etc.com/fab-etc-f-...cts-2-7-07.htm
i usually use the no-waste flying geese as shown on patchpieces.com doe anyone know the formula used on the link above making only two of them. there are times ya only need/want two of one colour/fabric so thot i'd ask. at this time of day it took the old brain a few seconds to comprehend how it worked. i see its basically making an offset QST and cutting it down the middle into two FGs. very clever and so useful i just want to know the formula for it. perhaps there is another place these are online? anyone got a link for me to go look at? groggy in the south pacific, j. |

IIRC - if you use a 6.5" "sky" and a 5.5" "geese" block to
start, and sew with a scant 1/4" seam you finish with a 4.5X2.5" FG unit (4X2" finished). I have it all somewhere - will try to put up a link later. HTH BTW - it makes FOUR units, not two. -- Cheryl & the Cats in OZ o o o o o o ( Y ) ( Y ) and ( Y ) Boofhead Donut Rasputin http://community.webshots.com/user/witchofthewest catsatararatATyahooDOTcomDOTau "nzlstar*" wrote in message ... : http://www.fabric-etc.com/fab-etc-f-...cts-2-7-07.htm : : i usually use the no-waste flying geese as shown on patchpieces.com : doe anyone know the formula used on the link above making only two of them. : there are times ya only need/want two of one colour/fabric so thot i'd ask. : at this time of day it took the old brain a few seconds to comprehend how it : worked. : i see its basically making an offset QST and cutting it down the middle into two : FGs. : very clever and so useful i just want to know the formula for it. : perhaps there is another place these are online? : anyone got a link for me to go look at? : groggy in the south pacific, : j. : : |

Should have added - units made like this can require a
LITTLE trimming all round (not just one side) to get precise measurements, but wastage is not too bad. -- Cheryl & the Cats in OZ o o o o o o ( Y ) ( Y ) and ( Y ) Boofhead Donut Rasputin http://community.webshots.com/user/witchofthewest catsatararatATyahooDOTcomDOTau "CATS" wrote in message ... : IIRC - if you use a 6.5" "sky" and a 5.5" "geese" block to : start, and sew with a scant 1/4" seam you finish with a : 4.5X2.5" FG unit (4X2" finished). : : I have it all somewhere - will try to put up a link later. : : HTH : : BTW - it makes FOUR units, not two. : : -- : : Cheryl & the Cats in OZ : o o o o o o : ( Y ) ( Y ) and ( Y ) : Boofhead Donut Rasputin : http://community.webshots.com/user/witchofthewest : catsatararatATyahooDOTcomDOTau : : : "nzlstar*" wrote in message : ... :: http://www.fabric-etc.com/fab-etc-f-...cts-2-7-07.htm :: :: i usually use the no-waste flying geese as shown on : patchpieces.com :: doe anyone know the formula used on the link above making : only two of them. :: there are times ya only need/want two of one colour/fabric : so thot i'd ask. :: at this time of day it took the old brain a few seconds to : comprehend how it :: worked. :: i see its basically making an offset QST and cutting it : down the middle into two :: FGs. :: very clever and so useful i just want to know the formula : for it. :: perhaps there is another place these are online? :: anyone got a link for me to go look at? :: groggy in the south pacific, :: j. :: :: : : |

I like the book that published this method - All the Blocks
are Geese by Mary Sue Suit. Came out back in '94 but I guess it is still around. -- Cheryl & the Cats in OZ o o o o o o ( Y ) ( Y ) and ( Y ) Boofhead Donut Rasputin http://community.webshots.com/user/witchofthewest catsatararatATyahooDOTcomDOTau "nzlstar*" wrote in message ... : oh geez, thanks, Cher, : we have been thru this before, iirc. : but then i usually 'craft' so no wonder i forgot it. : must away and check it again properly this time. : thanks yet again for the pix with the info. : hugz, : j. : : "CATS" wrote... : http://tinyurl.com/2yd67m : : : "nzlstar*" wrote... : : http://www.fabric-etc.com/fab-etc-f-...cts-2-7-07.htm : : : : i usually use the no-waste flying geese as shown on : patchpieces.com : : doe anyone know the formula used on the link above making : only two of them. : : |

Jeanne, you still get 4 from the 2 squares. That is the method that
Eleanor Burns uses and has rulers for. But I don't remember the "formula" for it. sigh. That's my favorite "geese" method, too. I first encountered that method
in a Quilt in a Day pattern; their "flying geese" ruler utilizes that method, but in only a few sizes. Mary Sue's is much more flexible and gives perfect geese every time.
