Default Double Sided knitting symmetric decrease help

Please help me.....

I started a double sided knitting project with two colors. I'd like
to finish it off by decreasing either in the center, or on the
sides. What is the best way to do this?

I've been referencing http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/decreases
On the right side, I've tried "ssk improved" for the knit stiches and
"ssp" for the purl stitches
On the left side, I just used "k2tog" and "p2tog"

Nothing seems to look right. If it looks right on one side, its wrong
on the other.

Hallo Dan ,
As you don`t give more details i can`t comment wether middle or side
decreases are better [depends on the item`s nature]
But i CAN give some ideas about decreasing , As a rule very rarely
decreas at what will be an edge of a project, i prefeer to make
decrease on 3rd & 4th stiches from and before edges.
instead of knitting or purling 2 together, and if you are doing the
Edge decreases , decrease one side by slipping the 3rd stich to right
needle , than knit the 4 th than take slipped st over the knitted
stich , on the opposite side just knit 4th and 3rd st before edge
together ,,, this 2 decreases wil look as much alike as you can
make ..
now this SSK and SSP you mentioned wasn`t known to me , thus i went to
a book to see what you meant ,, this book advices you to slip 2 st
singulary to right needle as if to knit them than slip back than k
those together than pass them to right than p next st than slip 2 tog
over that purl ,,,,, Quite Complicated ,,, and i would say very
Unneeded complication ,,,
If i want to decrease 2 i use The SAME idea i do with decreasing 1
st ,, on one side i slip 1 stich , knit [or purl] 2 together take
the slipped one over the 2 tog ,,, opposite side knit or purl all 3
together ,,,,
I hope that solves your problem ,,,
Ps if you make such a decrease in the middle of a row you get a 90*
angle corner ,,,,, it is good for Middle of v neck opening , it is
useful in Mittered squares etc....

Have you tried using a vertical double decrease in the center?
