Now I feel guilty.
Our parents were at the hearings, and spoke their mind piece, but they
had no vote; the school district made the decision. Like you, I think it was a good one. SNIGDIBBLY wrote: Only the Catholic school kids wear uniforms here. I wish it was otherwise. I think the uniforms are great levelizers and simplify things for parents. But when it was presented to the parents they disagreed and voted it down. We have several other parochial schools in our area but they don't require uniforms per se. The Penecostal Holiness school kids are easily recognized by the waist length hair on the girls and the long sleeved, ankle length dresses. Their boys aren't allowed to wear levis to school and have extremely short hair. |

Wish our school superintendant had more backbone. Is your school board
elected??? Thanks to private donations from some very wealthy folk in our area we don't lack for school funding. Private donations builds all the sporting fields, arts & drama center, etc. The tax dollars takes care of the rest. Apparently the voters have a big (we are a strong republican stronghold in a mostly democratic state) power base with the school board. -- http://community.webshots.com/user/snigdibbly SNIGDIBBLY ~e~ " / \ http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/snigdibbly. http://www.ebaystores.com/snigdibbly...ox&refid=store "Phyllis Nilsson" wrote in message ... Yes, our school board is elected, but our schools are always in dire
straights financially. Teachers often have to use their own money for things they think the students need that the school system doesn't provide. Thanks to Sam & Helen Walton every school in Benton County had computers for
the students long before other schools thru out the state. They are big contributers to U of Arkansas in Fayetteville (They fund a chair in the School of Business as well as scholarships too numerous to mention - (http://www.uark.edu/depts/gradinfo/). Sam's brother, Bud Walton contributes many millions to the sports departments ( http://www.razorbackfacilities.com/sport02.htm). The Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville (http://www.waltonartscenter.org/) was funded by the Walton Family. Then there are the Tyson family members ( http://www.tysonfoodsinc.com/AboutTyson/TysonCares/) who also contribute a lot to our local community college (NWACC) - (http://www.nwacc.edu/). This college was known as the "college without walls" for many years because classes were held where ever they could find space available. The school was created to serve non-traditional age students who work. The owners of Jones Trucking Lines, Harvey and Bernice Jones, built a huge Family Center in Springdale, AR (http://www.jonesnet.org/pages/home.htm) that has an ice skating rink, 2 olympic size swimming pools, computer labs and multiple meeting rooms that are provided to the entire NW Arkansas area free of charge. You just need to make reservations. It also houses a TV station that provides community service programs free of charge ( http://www.jonesnet.org/pages/jones_tv/tv_home.htm). They show complete Operas, Ballet, Yoga and cooking classes, and all the city counsel meetings (and some great country gospel music). The bill for every thing is paid by the now defunct JTL, Inc. trust fund. They also fund a Historical Museum in Grove, Oklahoma called HarBer Village for Families to spend the day picnicing and enjoying a turn of the century village. There is no charge to anyone who attends. Helen Walton paid to have the first Large scale Day Care Center ( http://www.hwccenter.com/enrolfees.htm) built in NW Arkansas for working mothers. This was years ago before any other Day Care centers were available. She still provides Day Care scholarships that pays for all or part of the tuition for single working moms. This is just the tip of the iceberg and only briefly explains why the folks here think so much of these families. The new Airport (XNA) ( http://www.nwara.com/) built in Highfill made millionaires out of several of the farming families in the area and they have returned some of their gain back to the community. The Arts and Drama center at Bentonville High School (http://users.bentonville.k12.ar.us/bhs/default.htm) was paid entirely by one of these farming families. We have a new Football field, Baseball field, soccer field and track all built from private donations. Not one penny of taxpayer dollars was spent on these. Even the land was donated. We are most fortunate that our children benefit from the generosity of these kind folks who worked hard and built their fortunes in NW Arkanasas. -- http://community.webshots.com/user/snigdibbly SNIGDIBBLY ~e~ " / \ http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/snigdibbly. http://www.ebaystores.com/snigdibbly...ox&refid=store "Phyllis Nilsson" wrote in message ... I'd say Arkansas certainly has some nice people. The wealthy around
here certainly don't donate to our school system and its a shame. You have wonderful people there Snigs; God bless 'em. One small help for teachers --
TSWLTH (Jo-Ann Fabrics) will give any teacher that signs up 1) a card good for 10% off (total) purchase (good for whole school year) 2) A first time coupon for 25% off total purchase. Not much in the broader scope of things - but a small help. ME-Judy "Phyllis Nilsson" wrote in message ... Yes, our school board is elected, but our schools are always in dire straights financially. For many years we would have had no community resources without them. I
left out the Lindsey family. Without them there would have been no rental property for many years. Everyone owned their home or moved a trailer onto Mom & Pops property (the source of many redneck jokes). The Boyles built city parks. They are a family of Engineers and they lost their youngest son in the Oklahoma Bombinb in OK City. He was an engineer for the feds - we have a huge park right in the center of the city in his name - like an oasis - with many beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees, waterfalls, ponds and benches for sitting and contemplating or meditating. They also were the force behind the biking path that makes a loop between Bella Vista and Bentonville. There are bikes - free to use but please return - provided at the starting point of the path. For those who love to ride this is a nice safe route away from 4 wheel traffic. Yes we are blessed by every one of these families. -- http://community.webshots.com/user/snigdibbly SNIGDIBBLY ~e~ " / \ http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/snigdibbly. http://www.ebaystores.com/snigdibbly...ox&refid=store "Phyllis Nilsson" wrote in message ... I wore an uniform (went to british school) and hated it. back home
public school kids wear a white (lab)coat over regular clothes for the same purpose. in highschool, supposedly to rebel against the military dictatorship, we stopped using the uniform and ran into all kinds of trouble...
