Me, too!

I was seriously considering going to Michaels or AC Moore, and to the LYS

to
buy more dpns, so that I can have several sock projects going at one time.

I'm so proud! I just finished my very first 4needle sock! Oh, ho! I've
finally got the hang of more than two needles, and it's not bad, which is

good
since I need to make about 20 pairs of socks for Christmas this year. By

the
way, that was ONE sock. I'm really hoping that sock #2 will look like the
first one,and I'm hoping for identical twins, not fraternal.

Do you think it helps to have both socks going on separate sets of

needles, and
switching back and forth as one progresses? Easier way to make

identicals?
And, a good excuse to buy more needles, and I'd have to go to the LYS

since the
above mentioned stores locally don't carry bamboo dpns.

Congratulations on your socks!! You should feel very proud, I think the
first sock is a major milestone in knitting -- and it's hard to go back to
store-bought ones after you make your own first pair.

I always start both socks at the same time and work on both of them.
Usually I do the ribbing for the first sock, then do the ribbing for the
second sock, and then just go back and forth equally. This does two things
for me -- I can more easily keep track of the rows / length of each portion
of each without having to make a lot of notes, easier to end up with
"identical twins" instead of "fraternal twins"; and it keeps the "orphaned
sock" syndrome from setting in -- sometimes it's hard to move on to that
second one once you've finished the first, the second one always seems like
it's going to take forever. Doing both at once is sort of a mental game I
play with myself so that I feel like I'm further along and don't get
discouraged, knowing I have another sock to go. It's easier to finish them
that way.

I know I'm suffering from a severe case of New-Project-itis. I need to have a
hook and needle reclaiming venture -- finish some items so I can retrieve the
hooks/needles from the UFOs.

Luckily, I was able to resist.
What's happening to us all?

It must be some
planetary alignment that has brought our textiles to life..
And the bizarre thing is, they're calling me to Michael's Craft store to
buy more!
Make the little voices stop!

You need to get comfortable enough with that to jump to doing 2 socks on one
(long 32 inch+) circular needle. As I said in another thread, I have 3
PAIRS of socks going right now, but am only using 3 needles. It is called
the "Magic Loop" method. Google for more info. There also is a group on
Yahoo specifically. I was lucky enough to have someone show me in person.
Not that I understood when I was shown, but it embedded into my brain until
it made sense.

Mirjam,

We must be twins as I have so many variegated colors I tried putting them in
one container, guess what, it took four to hold them all, then I went out and
bought more. I did get to Michaels this week, but it was picked over so didn't
get any Red Heart, but I did buy a skein of Homespun and this after saying I
wouldn't make anything again with it. I'm making my muff/hand/wrist warmer with
it, it's so soft.

Hugs,

Nora

Hi Mirjam,

I don't know, but it sure makes life interesting.

Hugs,

Your twin,

Nora
