Best fine point permanent fabric marker?
I apologize if this is not the best newsgroup for my question.
My father is entering a nursing home and I have to write his name in every article of clothing. I will need at least black and white markers, maybe silver too. I want them to be as fine tipped as possible and to hold up through frequent "industrial strength" washings. Can anyone recommend a good brand? Thanks in advance, Laurie |

Pigma brand fabric pens would probably work well. They come in fine points
(several thickness of fine), and in lots of colors. I'd write his name and use an iron to heat-set the ink. You can find these pens at large craft stores - Michael's, AC Moore, and some JoAnn's fabric stores. Many quilt shops carry them, too, but just in case you don't know of any, I offered some alternatives. An even cheaper alternative is Zig Writer pens found in the scrapbook
department of Wal-Mart. They have a fine tip that works very well for writing on fabric and they're also archival and don't bleed into the fabric. They're also come in a wide selection of colors. Given unknown industrial washing in a rest home, I'd go for something truly tested for laundry use and those sharpies just come in black. marcella |

I use them on clothing and they washed just fine.

We tried Sharpies for ABC Quilt labels. They are NOT permanent on
fabric! Pigma pens used and allowed to completely dry or ironed dry work best for us. Nancycog in MD |

I agree - Pigma Pens are best for quilts. But for marking clothes a sharpy
works just fine. -- http://community.webshots.com/user/snigdibbly SNIGDIBBLY ~e~ " / \ http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/snigdibbly. http://www.ebaystores.com/snigdibbly...ox&refid=store wrote in message ... There's another possible solution, clothing labels. I can only speak to
one manufacturer and style, Draper, but their woven sew ins are nice and easy to apply (mostly I folded them in half lengthwise and used a small zigzag stitch to attach them to a seam allowance.) Service from Australia to the US was good, no customs or other major holdups. http://www.apparellabels.com.au/dreason2.htm Kay Lancaster |
