Default dizzy jig

rcty,
I finished the granny square afghan, but the color combination was
not as down-home as I expected them to be; instead, looking at the
whole afghan makes my eyes do a dizzy jig. I look away, and then
look back for a second peek, and I feel a little sick in my tummy.
Not so sure I should give it away to one of my favorite people after
all.

Color combination: MC -- a vanilla to dark brown to dark red and CC
-- tan with a bit of orange tint to light and dark olive green to
dark brown.

Best case scenario: it looks good after a good nights sleep and just
the right amount of sunlight shining onto it. It -might- brighten a
room painted with dull colors and seem fine -- maybe(?).

I'll invite as many friends and neighbors to come over to look at
it, and get their reactions to it. [a slight horrible giggle at this
point.]

They might like it. :-)

Are the squares crocheted together after they were all made separately?
If so, then if you decide something has to be done, you could separate the
squares and make some plain ones in a coordinating color (maybe one of the
darker colors) to put between the variegated ones. Or, if you don't want
to make two afghans out of the one, you could crochet narrow strips of the
plain color to put between the squares.

If each square contains both yarns, I'd put plain colors between all the
squares. If each square is only one of the yarns, I'd go for making it
into two afghans. But that's just me.

Oh, dear, that is too bad. But wait for your neighbours' reactions. I'll bet
they love it.

Or you could crochet a wide border all the way around, using a neutral color
like the vanilla. That might serve to soften the overall look.

rcty,
okay, I've separated the granny squares, and I'm frogging back one
round on each granny square of the CC: falling leaves. note: The
dark brown color is in both variegated yarns, but I think the dark
red would smooth things better for the MC: vanilla to dark red
squares. Hopefully I'll have the afghan re-done within a week's time.

RCTY,
further trials and errors of color combinations wonderfully
corrected ... I tried the dark red between the variegated yarn
squares, but it did not help matters. I tried a warm or medium
brown, but it looked terrible. And, now I'm sticking with the taupe
color. It is VERY pleasing and comforting to the eye -- it worked
with both variegated yarn color combos. I cannot wait for the last
rounds to be done, and I get to re-assemble the granny squares again.

Isn't that amazing! How one colour can change the whole work,
and not to speach your own anticipations and eagerness!
(These may be were not the right words,
but i am sure you understand that I recognice your feelings!)
Good luck to you!
