Shulamit , now that we spoke ,,,, over the phone, i am here to help ,
also please call Haya , thus you will have In -City help ,,,, I don`t know which wool your shop lacks ,, i can send you a ball of wool with Printed hook sizes , but my best advice to my pupils is TRY ,,,, take a new wool and play with it ,,,, try it with various sized needles ,, with time you will `develope` a proper matching eye , and i still try each `new` to me wool ,,, there is also a difference as to waht you have in mind ,, shawls can be crocheted a little LOOSER than sweaters, hats , bags ,,,, so one has to try ,,, And it isn`t a waste of time . And if you can spare the thread you used to SWATCH ,, keep your swatches for later use , if you can`t spare ,, just unravel it , Shabat Shalom to you ps i will see if other gave you directions ,,, if needed i can fax you some ilustrations [ or snail it ] best way would contact some Local friend ,,, mirjam Well, now that I'm here I am going to ask tons of questions! :-) The granny square is the easiest crocheted square, right? Well, I must admit I cannot do it. For some reason it gets all crumpled, not flat as it should be. Please - does someone have directions that work? I tried some from several websites and ended up frustrated with "furry balls" as my husband called those trys when he saw them :-) or :-( Also, while I'm at it - how should I choose the size of the hook? Should it be wider than the yarn? I think the yarn we have here doesn't have hook sizes listed.. Shulamit |

NORA you are not lazy !!!
Why is practical called lazy ??? Anyway when i change colors i hide the cut thread under the next stiches , saves loads of work later ,,, My best grannies were the Hexagons i made for Son`s afgahan ,,,,, Now for daughter i started my `granny ` straight with 44 stiches , on which i work with one back ground 1-2 colors for the inside pattern [ cat , moon , heart, Hebrew leters, X -mix - drix , etc,,,, i jsust cahnge color and work next `granny` ,,,, in this method i will have Stripes of Grannies , which i will later sew together lengthwise ,,,, mirjam Jacqueline, I was going to suggest the same thing, I usually make my first five or six rounds the same color, then add a different one for the last round, unless you do like I do sometims, real lazy, just keep on going until you have about 32 rounds. I make grannies that are made in one piece m one thread as well ,,,,,,
mirjam I never found Granny's as easy as I was always led to believe. I think they are more difficult because you are stopping (cutting) and starting each round. JMTCW JJMolvik |

Cori,
I have successfully printed the instructions and brought them home :-) So far so good :-)) Didn't have chance to try it yet though...sorry.. being to busy as I have a paper to submit (even though it seems I always have some paper to write..), and have got a nasty virus over the weekend. Don't hold your breath, it might take a few weeks for me to actually try it.. "Cori" wrote in message ... Dear Shulamit, How is the square coming? You've got me curious! (not hard to do lol. Thanks again Mirjam
The problem is that I really don't do any crafts right now... So all my rants about yarns I would like to have are... well... wishful thinking. But when I get to it I promise I'll call Haya.
