Sewing machines recommended for quilting and doing general sewing???
What do you like about your machine and/or dislike? Which machines would you stay away from and why? Live in the USA and am not real mechanically minded!! Are those of you with electronic machines with touch pads happy with your machines? Have you had problems creating costly expenses? Can I get a machine for under $2000? -- |

Are those of you with electronic machines with touch pads happy with your machines? Have you had problems creating costly expenses? Can I get a machine for under $2000? My main machine is an Elna 6003 (Quilter's Dream model). It is an older (12+ years) computerized machine. I like the needle-down feature, the built-in needle threader, and the push-button reverse. It has a drop-in bobbin, which I prefer. It also has a nice buttonhole and a nice selection of decorative and utility stitches. I also have a 1965 or 66 Elna Supermatic - my first machine - and an Elna Stella, which is a small, older machine I bought used for classes and retreats. I would stay away from the cheap machines sold at big box stores, though some have them and seem to like them. If you are on a tight budget, look at used machines at a good sewing machine dealer. They often have good machines that they have taken in in trade when someone upgrades to a newer, fancier model. Most important, find a good reliable dealer that you can trust. Ask around if you don't know any. Try to avoid picking one out of the yellow pages. One indication of a reliable dealer is one who has been around for a while. Julia in MN |

Just as with cars, what's right for one person is not right for another. This is a good read. http://www.craftsy.com/article/tips-...sewing-machine -Irene |

I learned I don't like computer machines and prefer mechanical. I am one of
a very few though. You should be able to find a nice machine at that price point. I would suggest a machine with a large harp or bed so there is a lot of room to work. I like the ones that are fast too. If you can get to a larger quilt show you can test a lot of machines from various makers in one shot. maybe even get a good show price. If not go to the dealers in your area and start testing. HTH, Taria "Sandy from Alexandria" wrote in message roups.com... What do you like about your machine and/or dislike?
