India Bazaar www.indiabazaar.net wrote: Hi B-), No photo-- but your request is a good excuse to make another trip to the fabric store this week. :-)) I'll check the pattern book,to see if there is a similar pattern to what DD was wearing. Think of a very long--ankle length--Nehru jacket, only not so tight. But the outfit did have a very small stand-up collar, and a couple of buttons for center front closures. From about 4 or 5 inches above the waist, it was open to the floor--no buttons, no over-lap of fabric. (Being over 40, and larger that a size 12, I'd change this feature , adding lap, and buttons to below the waist--provided I could find my waist!!) The side slits can end anywhere you want--DD's ended about the hip area. The sleeves were long. You could use any slim-fitting pants pattern- if very slim, and ending at the ankles, add a vent feature, so you can get your foot into the legs. The thin, floaty fabric is a must. And you are right, this style would make a great beach cover-up. You might try the costume site that is recommended for the salwar kameez pants; they'll likely have the Indian outfit, too. I'll let you know if I turn up a pattern from the books. Cea Salwar kameez pants (Wagner Mitchell Family) Cea, I'm very interested in your DD's outfit. Do you have a photo of it, or a reasonable facsimile? Besides a cape and a swimsuit cover-up, I'd also love to sew myself a swanky summer outfit! B-) ---- wrote: Hi Stefani, I saw some beautiful bordered silks--sari-type--in Joann's fabric shop.Reasonably priced, too. They caught my eye, because DD showed up last summer wearing a very stylish, cool, floaty Indian style garb: long, split-side over-tunic, in a semi-sheer gauzy fabric, with slim, tapered pants beneath. I was envious; despite the heat, she looked cool, and stylishly chic. It would help, though, if you described the pants. Are they the style which are very voluminous, and drape across the front of the body? What type of fabric, and weight, would that call for? If a pattern is not available, perhaps you could trace one off the pair you already own? Cea ---- Salwar kameez pants (Stefani276) I have recently become enamored of the Indian garments called 'salwar kameez'. I own one and it is lived in a lot. I want to make some more, and in fact own some patterns that are quite suitable. The problem is the patterns do not have the authentic pants pattern. Does anyone know of a source to obtain this pants pattern, or any authentic salwar kameez pattern? Also, if anyone knows of a source to buy these beautiful fabrics, I'd be grateful if you'd point me in that direction. Thanks for any assistance. Stefanie -- |

In article , Monica
Shah of http://groups.google.com uttered I have been using snip for my purchases of Indian apparel and jewelry. I must say..their customer service is excellent and the prices quite reasonable. Blatant advert snipped This doesn't alter the fact that a) advertising is *inappropriate* in this forum (see charter) b) the original offending post was dead until you resurrected it. One can only assume that, in fact you have some business interest there. Odd how after the first spam, *nobody* here asked for information/ opinions about them. -- AJH alpha dot hotel echo yankee whisky oscar oscar delta at tango echo sierra charlie oscar dot november echo tango |

Too bad they couldn't take their own advice. |
