Default One of my quilts is going to China!

My brother has been working in China for many years, and married a lovely
Chinese woman. They have visited Canada 2 or 3 times each year for the past
3 years, and we have been able to spend a bit of time together. This visit,
they drove the extra 5 hours to come for a visit to Kingston! We had a
great visit, and I learned a lot about her life in China, and their life
there together. She has a 13 yr old son, Steven, and they both speak, read
and write English very well. She acts as interpreter for my brother,
although he has learned a lot of the language over the years.
I had given her a small wall hanging 2 years ago, but was always worried
about too much luggage on the return trip. This time, I showed her all the
quilts I had finished, and asked her to pick one she liked. She chose
"Whirl of Scraps" (in my quilts 05 album on Webshots). She liked it because
of all the bright colours. Their apartment in Guilin is very white!
I was so happy that she liked such a colourful quilt. She has learned how
to cross-stitch, and they have framed her work and it decorates her
apartment. People don't have hobbys in China, like we do, so everyone
thinks she is so smart, to learn to cross-stitch!.
When my brother retires, they are planning to live in Canada, so we plan to
spend more time together. She wants to learn how to quilt!

How exciting!

I have a DS and DDIL who are missionaries. They will be going back to Russia
for a calling in Siberia next year. They were there for 2 years and have
returned to get their Masters before going back. I made them a quilt for
their wedding in January and will be taking it with them when they go. I
love the thought of them laying under my quilt every night, enveloping their
love with my love.

Default One of my quilts is going to China!

My brother went to China to manage a tire manufacturing plant - sent by the
Canadian company. Now he works as a consultant. He has less travel
benefits, but more control over schedules. He married his lovely Chinese
wife over 2 years ago, and I have never seen him so happy. They are making
plans for returning to Canada sometime in the future. Her son from her
first marriage is in grade 8, and they are not sure whether they want him to
finish school in China, or go to high school in Canada. He had his first
trip out of China last summer, and he greatly improved his English!
I was checking my stash for basketball fabric, as that is his favourite
sport!
