New to the group and seeking advice on ebay pricing and selling
Hello,
I just wanted to take the time to introduce myself and hopefully get some advice from some seasoned beaders and ebayers. I found this group through Su of Tillerman Beads. She bought some beads off me from ebay and told me she was introduced to the beads through this group, so I thought I would check it out. I was so delighted to see the wonderful remarks some of you were making about the beads I sell on ebay. Unfortunately, I cannot claim responsibility for making the beads, I just sell them. My good friend, Dominic, is the artist. I offered to sell his work on ebay and I started about a month ago and, so far, sales have been good. All of his beads that I have listed thus far have sold. However, the beads are not selling for what they are truly worth yet. I am wondering if anyone has any advice on pricing on ebay. I am a little nervous about starting pricing at $.99 for his beads. I know it's a good way to ignite interest and bidding, but it makes me anxious that his beads could sell for less than what they are worth. His beads sell for anywhere between $30 - $60 retail. I've been starting his beads at around $19.99 but I haven't been generating as much interest as I would like. So, I would greatly appreciate any opinions and/or advice on pricing and selling on ebay. Oh, and just a little about myself. My name is Jessica. I'm 31 year-old mother to a 20 month-old boy (Aidan). I started selling my friend's work on ebay because, eventually, I would like to set up a homebased business so I can be an active part of my son's life. I'm hoping to find more lampwork artists in San Diego who would like me to sell their work on ebay. Currently I am selling Dominic's beads and another friend's handcrafted gemstone jewelry. I graduated with a degree in art and art history. I am an artist myself and am really starting to get into beading. Anyway, I think this is a neat group and I am looking forward to your replys and being part of a community. Adult interaction, even over the internet, is so stimulating since I take care of children all day (currently, I nanny because I can take my son to work). Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to hear from you! Jessica Windsor |

Welcome Jessica!! What's your ebay ID?
I have this article on selling on my website: http://www.lampwork.net/what3.html On the 99 cent thing - I would only recommend that tactic to people who have an established customer base on ebay - it's too nerve racking otherwise. take care of children all day (currently, I nanny because I can take my son to work). ~~~~~~~~ I understand. Numerous of us are disabled here on RCB, and find our adult companionship largely over the internet as well, as it's hard to get out of the house. (I found my beautiful husband online.) My sister nannied for years! (Til she had twins at age 42!) Kandice's advice on marketing http://www.lampwork.net/what3.html is *excellent*. Read it and learn! You will benefit greatly. |

Oh, your work is stunning!!
Hmmm - as for advice - I might say to use pictures which are slightly bigger and a little more clear. Also, I wouldn't recommend 99 cent auctions for your focals - that's much harder to do successfully than with sets. Jewelry is a much, *much* tougher merket on ebay these days than selling handmade lampwork - there are tons more people selling jewelry. Nice job, though - your focals are wonderful! -- Kandice Seeber www.lampwork.net "jesse" wrote in message oups.com... Hi Kandice, My ebay ID is jessenartie. Let me know what you think. As a buyer, I dislike .99 listings. I guess it's because I want a sort of statement of worth. You should start with it's lowest possible value, but not below it.. Work that is good gets discovered pretty quickly and doesn't stay low priced. When you say "retail", do you mean the price he would get in a gallery? Typically that would be double what the gallery would give him. So if a bead of his retails for $60, he'd want $30, and might start at $20 on eBay. Like Karen Lewis' beads http://www.justbeads.com/listings/de...mnum=806873065 In a bead store this set would be at least $50. (I've seen them in stores). Her reserve is usually close to half the BIN price, probably $22 or so. In a way this is a poor example, because of the reserve pricing. Reserve pricing is a big no-no in my book. I usually won't bid on anything with a reserve price. I figure if you can't honestly ask for a price.... Oh I don't know. I just don't like it. Tina "jesse" wrote in message oups.com...
