Default UFO woes

Well, group, I've come out of the big stress of getting three pretty big
papers written this week. whew! I really have only one more to go before
finals. . . and three weeks to prepare that one. Let's hope I won't get to
frantic over it!

The other evening (can't remember when--the days have run together) I dug
out a project that I have been working on for almost a year that I intended
to give to my nearly 4 yr. old nephew. It's a crochet stuffed dinosaur toy
made out of fabric strips instead of yarn. I've got the tail/body/head made
as well as one leg. I started working on another leg and realized why it's
been sitting in the closet for such a long time. I hate working on the dern
thing! The fabric is not easy to work with, in fact it's a pain in the
rear! It's far from relaxing, which is what crochet and crafting ought to
be, right? And to top it all off, I can't help but feel that it's a little
too much time and effort to put into a project that won't be apprecated that
much? Nothing against my nephew, I love him to bits and he's a great kid,
but would any 4 yr. old be capable of appreciating a handmade gift that took
tens-of-hours to make? Especially in this commercial-driven society?

So, I've decided that the dinosaur will sit in the closet for another year
or so, until I have children of my own that I might feel are worth the
blisters and tense muscles it will take to finish the blasted thing. But it
still makes me sad. . . I don't mind having UFOs that I intend to finish --
it's the UFOs that I really don't want to finish that break my heart. No
pleasure in seeing the project completed and feeling like you've lost your
investment. . .

Just thought I'd share, knowing that some of you understand and can
sympathize.

Blessings,
Myka

I don't know about your nephew, but my son, who is 4, would be very happy
with that, and has been very happy with the things I've made for him. I
think he feels it's extra special when mummy made it; which isn;t
surprising, because I always find things people made for me extra special.

nod

I guess there's no easy answer to that. Maybe you could carry on, just
doing five minutes at a time? That way, it would get done, you'd still get
to do fun projects, and it might not hurt too much?
