How much extra are they charging for the embroidery attachment?

I tried it but only on a small block, not a quilt. It was so wonderful
that I put down a deposit. I can't wait for the shop's allotment of the
new machines to arrive. I am also getting the embroidery attachment!
Hopefully, it will be very soon; the wait is killing me.

Hi,
I saw this machine for the first time at my LQS/Bernina dealer for a
SuperBowl Sale. I didn't try it (ashamed to say I haven't done any mach.
quilting yet) but saw a couple of ladies test it. It is a 440Q. It was
really neat to say the least. It has a red sensor light on the foot which
detects the fabric moving. The operator doesn't even have to use a foot

or
knee controller. I think I recall the dealer setting a stitch length. The
price was around $3,300 (don't know what goodies came with it). If I were
in the market for a new machine, I could be tempted.

Thanks -- sigh I can't think of any excuse - real or fanciful including "I'm
worth it" -- for spending that kind of money - sigh sigh sigh. Will just
have to live with my Bernie mechanical and the 170 ... maybe someone who
lives near me will buy one and I can go drool on it every so often :-)

About $1000.00. You use USB ports to attach the unit to your computer and,
so I am told since mine has not arrived yet, anything you can download from
the internet (in several different formats) you can stitch out on the
machine. The software also will resize motifs so that if you want to
enlarge or reduce the stitch density remains the same.

The stitches really are the same length regardless of speed,
though there can be the odd one here or there that is slightly off --
not as many as are off when I do it without the BSR (stitch regulator),
though.

Did you notice -- do you get to set that length or is it preset in the
machine? I ask because when I do very tight stippling then I want a fairly
short stitch so that I can approximate curves and when I do more open
stippling I want a longer stitch ....

Ellen

I didn't notice that, Ellen. I'd need to do a more intensive trial of a
lot more features, too, before I made a definite decision. However, I
think I'm going to pass on buying it; I suspect I'm going to have some
medical bills to pay with the money I'd hoped to use on the new machine.
Good thing I do still love my Bernina 1260QPE!

If bernina are incorporating a stitch regulator now... I recon other
manufacturers can't be too far behind. Is anyone here a shop owner with any
"insider" info as to what new models are in the pipeline???

Has anyone tried the new Bernina with the stitch regulator? It is
suppose to be the same type of thing that is on the long arm machines.
When you are doing free motion quilting the machine stitches the same
length stitch regardless of the speed you are quilting. Does it really
work?

When I get home from vacation I thought I would take a basted baby
quilt to the store selling the new Bernina's and give it a test drive.
Has anyone done that yet?

You can set the stitch length for free motion. (Saw this feature watching
the machine on Fons and Porter's quilt show.

Thank you -- I think. In some ways, I am real sorry to hear that :-)

Makes it so much harder to resist dropping in and checking the machine out

My local quilt shop emailed me about this model a couple of days ago. I've
been trying to find out how much it is since then.

$3499.00? Waahhh! I guess I can stop chatting it up with DH. sigh

I had a chance to try it at a local quilt show. It works really well.
There are three different ways to use it, but for the show it was set up
the
easiest way. Push a blue button on the front, and when you started moving
the quilt sandwich, it started sewing. My biggest complaint is that they
didn't make more room under the arm! They list for 3499.00.

I picked up a brochure on the 430 & 440 QE models yesterday. The new stitch
regulator technology is under patent to Bernina.
The stitch regulator only comes on the 440QE model. It also has more built
in stitches to choose from and more feet, including a walking foot. You can
also purchase the embroidery unit as an option. It runs with software with
a PC, using a USB port.
