y'all are NOT gonna believe this one.

i spent the weekend visiting with my mom.
one of the things i do for her is to take her to run errands - the
kind women don't mind doing but that drive my brothers crazy.

and while we're out, we stop at the hardware store.
found what she wanted.
and on impulse, i stop in the section where they have the drills,
screwdrivers, etc.

showed her what i wanted DH to get me for Christmas - attachments for
the Dremel . . .

and in passing, the clerk asks me if i found what i was looking for.
so i explain to him that i'm looking at tools for jewelry making. and
he doesn't have the "cutter" for the Dremel in stock. and then i tell
him that what i need are some kind of "clamps" that i can use for
holding things, and what i really need is an extra hand. and he says,
"now THAT i have." and my mother and i are standing there with our
mouths open. and he leads us to another aisle. and there it is - in a
package labeled "xtra hand"!

like an idiot, when i got home i tossed the package, and now i can't
remember who made it. i do know that i got it at Orchard Supply
Hardware - but they don't have an online catalog. and it was only
$15!!!!! and for what i need [holding the other end of a braided
piece, or the loop on a bead i'm wrapping] it's PERFECT!!!!!

of one with a magnifier. They also have single clamp versions as well as
double clamp versions.

Oh, this is a great tool! My husband gave/loaned me his. He used it to tie
his own flies for fishing.

Have fun with it!

The one I got was $5.95 on EBay, called "third hand", I think. It has the
magnifier, clamps, also has a coil for resting the soldering iron on.

It could work.

If you're in the market for one of these, check out Radio Shack or
www.micromark.com. They both carry versions with/without magnifier, two or
three hands. Prices seem to be in the $9-10 range.

I too have one of those Vicki, it also has a magnifier on it. They are
often used by fishermen for tying flies.
Like you say they are great for holding one end of the beading strands.

Guess mine was a little cheaper than yours. It cost around 2 pounds
about 3 dollars.

It's late. I should be asleep. But I just "had" to
check my e-mail before going to bed.
There's mail from Good Hand Arts. (If you don't know
who they are, it's an on-line hand made, fine arts and
crafts gallery. Go to www.goodhandarts.com .
They say I'm artist of the month. Very nice.
I'm on the first page of the site. They are very
new on line, but they are doing something right.
So far they have sold 3 or 4 items for me and they've
only been "open" for about 3 months. Not bad. It
took me 3 years to generate that many sales off of
my web site.
And the TV opportunity too! I'm flying!
