Oh, it never would occur to me to iron fabric
before storing, never mind spraying it!! it just
needs another pressing before cutting anyhow.
Hugs back at ya. PAT

What I meant Pat was that after it is washed and sprayed with starch or
sizing before it is stored. You are absolutely right that if you wash,
iron, no spray of any kind, fold and store, you have "virgin fabric". Hugs,

Howdy!
I wash all fabrics before storing,
but I don't (usually) iron them and never starch them
until I'm ready to cut and sew.
[One reason for washing all new fabric: much of it has
sizing or other chemicals on it when stored in the warehouse;
some of those chemicals attract dust and dirt like a magnet;
I don't want that transferred to my hands or to the stash.]
Many of the older tops I've quilted have become discolored
by starch; over the decades that starch residue turns yellow
or brown, gets spotty, and attracts bugs. Ick!
Thank goodness for BIZ in the washer.

Dan-my-bugman takes care of all the silverfish
which tend to gather in the warm attic; bugs are not allowed
to run amok in the house near the stash. G

Sizing was recommended over starch if you are storing the fabric in a
closet that may have silverfish come by. They LOVE to eat the starch.
That is assuming you wash all your stash fabrics before storing them.

I use Niagra Spray Starch - they sell it at Costco.

I only starch fabric as it is being used in a project, not before it
goes in the stash.
