Figures (not dolls) for 1" scale

The fabric never hangs exactly right for the scale and so forth, and
when these figures are placed in a setting that is otherwise
meticulously scaled, they stick out like a sore thumb. I'm not
belitting anyone's efforts in this area, but for me these types of
figures just don't work in a scale setting.

Some time ago (20 years ago or so) I saw an ad for someone offering
figures like I'm looking for. I think they were made of porceline or
something similar, and if I remember correctly, they were unpainted. I
think the location was in Austin, TX or thereabouts.

Can anyone help?

Try the various series put out by th United States Historical Society.
These are all VERY realistic, but include only prominent people, mostly
from time periods circe 1960 and earlier (all women, as far as I know).

Many of their older series (such as Great American Women) are available
in secondary markets (we found them first at a local antique store, but
I'll bet there's loads on e-bay.
