Default Sewing Machine Newbie With A Problem

Hey, everybody!

I hope no one minds, but I'm having trouble figuring out the
sewing machine I just picked up. I apologize, since I have
a suspicion this is a rookie mistake. The machine is small,
but more than able to handle cotton fabrics. I plan to make
some camp shirts with it.

Before I decided to do anything, I decided to examine the
machine. I think I pulled some thread wrong or something.
The instruction manual says to thread the bobbin and, once
out under the foot, "You should see a loop from the bobbin."
I tried bringing the thread around to the front through a
guide on the bottom next to the needle plate. A test run
with some fabric resulted in no stitches.

I'm figuring the trick is to somehow get the thread
underneath from the bobbin to close around the thread from
the needle when the needle comes down, but I can't figure
out how it is done. Am I supposed to run the thread from
the bobbin through the needle, also?

Hello, Once the needle is threaded and the bobbin inserted correctly, turn
the wheel so the needle goes down into the plate and then up again. A loop
of bobbin thread should come up and you will be able to grasp it and put it
with the top thread to the side and begin sewing. I hope my explanation
makes sense to you. Nana

Side note: My first mistake when I did this....I forgot to hold the thread
from the needle while I was putting the needle down into the plate and back
up again. Hold the needle thread with your left hand while the right hand
turns the hand crank, then the bobbin thread will catch and come up above
the plate in a loop that you can then grasp and pull up like Nana said!

HTH!

Hey, everybody!

I wanted to thank everyone for the advice and offers for
advice. Turns out, all I had to do was put the bobbin spool
in there, thread the needle, and it did the rest.

Sheesh. That was simpler than I thought! I thought I had
to thread the hole in the needle plate myself, and couldn't
figure out how to guide the thread into there.

Thank you very much. Time to go to work!
