Cynthia England class members? Simply Quilts tapes, anyone?
Has anyone here had a class with Cynthia England? Please share any comments
you may have about her and the her teaching and the class. Simply Quilts episode #655 aired in September 2003 and on it, C. England showed her picture piecing technique. I would be more than happily willing to pay for / trade fabric for / name first child after / a VHS or DVD copy of that episode. I live in New Mexico. I can also just borrow said VHS or DVD tape, and mail it back to you within one week, paying for your postage to and from, plus gratuity. Cyndi |

Yes! Thanks, Mary! For some reason, I learn better if I do it with my
hands rather than reading how to do something. I have to get knee deep and dirty in it to make the knowledge absorb into my brain. I saw that show before I got back into quilting and sat there with my chin
on my knees. I'm afraid a quilt like that would be more work than pleasure. -- Mary http://community.webshots.com/user/mardor1948 "QuiltShopHopper" wrote in message ... Yes! Thanks, Mary! I took two classes with Cynthia England when she visited my guild in VA
(back in Oct/Nov? before I moved to London). The first class was a kit, to try out and get used to the method of piecing. It was about 6 hours and I did about a quarter of my kit. She spent a lot of time showing us over and over again, as much as anyone needed to be able to see what was going on. And wheneven one of us would go "Oh, bummer" (or whatever) she'd make a lesson for everyone out of showing how to fix that particular mistake. The second class was a short (3 hours? Pat?) design class, which was all about finding a good picture and splitting it up into regions. So that we should be able to make our own patterns. Cynthia is (IMHO) a good teacher, she is intertaining and has an incredible amount of energy. I walked out of the classes roaring to go home and finish the project, however... Life got in the way (big time) and then I was moving across the Atlantic. So I haven't finished the kit. My feeling at the time was this "The jury is still out on the method" - I understand what is supposed to happen, but to me it still seems like there is a lot of making things fit. And since I actually like normal paper piecing, I'm not sure it Cynthia's method is for me. But the classes were good. The only thing I remember that she did not cover was choosing fabrics. But she does talk about that some in the book. Hope this helps. Hanne QuiltShopHopper wrote: Has anyone here had a class with Cynthia England? About 6 years ago I took her class and bit by bit finished the winter landscape
picture. I love the wallhanging and people often think it is a painting but it will be a one and only. All those bitty pieces!! I do have some things that get finished because I get determined to finish the piece. Right now it is a queen sized reversable log cabin that has been in progress since Fall of 2002. It is truely a "thinking woman's quilt. Takes a lot of concentration. Hope to get back to it soon. Faye in CO |
