Default Getting all confused...

I've had a look at the yarn conversion guide that was posted a little =
while back and I'm just getting into more of a muddle than I was to =
begin with!

I'm just about to start to knit my squares for the swap. I'm supposed to =
be knitting them in the UK equivalent of the Red Heart Yarn that I read =
a lot about here, but what does that work out to?

I'm guessing UK is 4 ply, but I thought I would check before I start =
tomorrow morning.

Hope someone can help,

Sarah

Sarah,
I believe (and I stand to be corrected on this) that our knitting =

worsted is
called double knitting in the UK. I don't think that it matters what
thickness yarn you use, as long as you get the square the right size. =

But I
could be wrong on this, too. I guess I wasn't much help, was I? g

No, that was a big help. At one point I thought last night I thought it =
was Aran!

At least 4ply and double knitting gauge yarn are similar.

Cheers,

Sarah

DK is a bit thinner than knitting worsted, and Aran is a bit thicker.

DK knits 22 sts to 4 inches
Worsted knits 20 sts to 4 inches
Aran knits 18 sts to 4 inches.

Roger.

Just seen this so sorry for the delay in replying!

I had the same problem, Sarah, so checked on Roger's ever useful sight and
decided to use aran instead of dk for my worsted equivalent because it seemed a
little nearer and would still give the slightly chunky effect. It's personal
preference though- i am sure either is fine.

regards
Sarah

At least it wasn't just me then!

I decided to use DK but knit the squares in a stitch which makes the =
final square a bit thicker. At the moment I'm doing Rice stitch.

Thankyou everyone for the advice )
