Tribute to a Quilter

Her body was tired-her back-how it ached
If she sat one more hour, she feared it would break!
But only five flowers remain yet to do,
If she stays a bit longer, they'll surely get through!
Her fingers are pricked and stiff and sore.
Yes, she's a quilter but let her add more
She, with others made lovely designs.
She's preserving the heritage of the Relief Society line.
How like the quilt is the woman's life.
The top is cheerful and pretty and neat
But beneath the top lies the character sweet.
It has all the softness of a woman's heart-
Yet it's strong and durable and comfort imparts.
The woven threads are the vital part.
For they bind together the face and the heart.
These threads are the links of the Gospel plan,
Which glorify like-eternity to span.
As the quilt warms those who wrap in its folds,
Likewise the quilter warms hearts and souls.
The well-made quilt will last a long while
And the well taught woman wears her smile.
She will endure the test and weather the storm
And protect her loved ones from every harm.
As the quilt grows older-the corners wear-
But its beauty is deep and surpasses its tear.
The quilter, too, may wear at her corners,
But her beauty remains for time to honour.
How like the quilts are the steadfast quilters-
It is they who are the kingdom builders!
