Default OT From Forest Fires to Floods!

Hi Everyone
You recall that last month and in August we were concerned about several
B.C. communities and forest fires? Well now we have the other end of the
scale, major rainstorms with flood conditions. Victoria broke their one day
rain record by almost 45mm of rain for a total of about 135mm! Vancouver
area got 85mm in the same day, just 4mm shy of breaking their record.

F if you'd like. Right now we're between systems and almost have some
sunshine, but they are saying it won't last for long.
Glub, glub, glub, getting my webfeet attached for the winter.

Oh Dear I really wish you could send some rain down under as we are still in
a drought from last year. We now have water restrictions as dams are aprox
57% fill. How shocking going from extreme to extreme. Sending all my good
thoughts to you and your's. trish in Sydney ..

I "thought" I heard something about flooding in Washington (state)
yesterday, but did not go to the TV and investigate. I'll have to tune in
to that NW news channel again this morning. I don't speak metric, but I
think 135mm is over 5". (I just went and measured my 100mm cigarette pack.)

We got just a sprinkle of rain a week ago--so far those weather systems are
ending well up in Oregon. I'd like some rain, please, but no floods
thank-you-very-much. I'll keep my fingers crossed you can keep your head
above water.

Hi Trish
Thanks for the good thoughts, our reservoirs are still down from our summer
dry spell, in fact they had to open the gates up because of the run off.
Our water is very cloudy right now due to the heavy rains.

Hi Ruth,
Yes, both Washington and B.C. have had some flooding. You're right, 135mm
is just over 5". Have sunny/cloudy skies right now. Hardest hit has been
up towards Squamish/Whistler/Pemberton where a bridge washed out taking two
vehicles. One person got out and 4 more still missing, happened at 0200 in
the morning.
Now they are saying we're expecting wind warnings, 70-90 km [about 40-60
mph]. Then heavier rains coming back on Monday.
Ah, fall on the west coast, wet, rainy, windy.

We're very lucky up here in the Hunter region, the dams are still approx.
80% with no immediate threat of restrictions. Canberra is on stage 3
restrictions due to some dams having ash in them and a lot of allegedly
under-maintained pumps seized due to the ash as well.

Down here in Victoria we are improving little by little - over the past
months we've gone from 47% water storage to 53%, same as this time last
year. Hopefully the yobbos in government will see sense and keep us on
stage 2 restrictions until the dams are even fuller-er.
