Default Christmas wows

I am a happy, happy fiber junkie this week. My parents (who really shouldn't
have done this, they don't have lots of money) went and bought me an Ashford
Kiwi and a lovely pear takhi spindle and bowl for Christmas. My first
wheel - for that matter, my first spindle that I didn't make myself! I was
also given a subscription to Spin Off magazine, and a friend gave me a gift
card to Hancock Fabrics, which I just got back from using this evening. They
didn't have any fabric I liked, but they have just started stocking Lion
Brand yarns and some knitting needles, etc. I bought several skeins of the
Wool Ease sportweight yarn, in assorted colors. The price list said it was
$5 a skein, but when I got to the checkout counter, the salesgirl insisted
it was $2.40 per skein, so I got twice the amount of yarn I thought I'd get.
6 skeins! Wheee!

Carrie,

Wow, what a great Christmas gift you received from the store with the woolease
yarn. Now, you'll have to keep us posted on what you make with it.

Hugs,

Nora

Socks! I'm teaching myself how to make socks. I hate store-bought socks,
they always have that seam in the toes, and I have big feet so they never
fit me right anyway. My feet are *always* cold. So I bought 6 skeins in 5
different colors, and am making 6 pairs of (hopefully wearable!) socks. I'm
using a pretty generic pattern, and I've discovered that I really really
stink at casting on and joining on double pointed needles, but if I knit an
inch or so of ribbing on 2 needles and then split that between the rest of
my DPN's, I'm fine. It makes a neat looking ruffly top, too.

*grin* I'm pretty excited about it. I love my spindles, but it's wonderful
how much faster I can spin with the wheel! I'm already working on a hat with
some of the wheel spun I've made in the last couple of days, and I'm
experimenting with how bulky or fine I can spin on it.

The number of works in progress is jumping drastically around here. :-)

Carrie
