Default Peyote Watchband Questions

Im thinking outloud here.. bear with me and if this sounds reasonable,
doable, let me know please.
DIL is not able to have most metals touch her, that includes metal watch
backs and bands, so she buys ones with plastic bands. Nice, but not for
fancy dinners out, etc. Ever since I met her Ive wanted to create a special
watch band that would avoid this issue beautifully. Here is what I came up
with.
I would create a rectangle of peyote exactly the width of the openings at
the ends of the watch (the face would be the kind with a spring post at each
end. I would slide the watch onto the band, having the beads go under the
face. Then I continue weaving along both sides of the band, working around
that area where the band goes around the post things. Will this work from a
technical point, meaning, can peyote be worked from both edges? Will it
cover the metal completely? The ends of the part where the springy posts
fit in... thats the one part that bugs me. For a clasp, a loop of seeds on
one end, and a nice button on the other.. perhaps polyclay? Polyclay that
has beads on it? :-)
I havent ever done any bead weaving before, but I think this is going to be
fun!!

How about putting a watch face/head into a peyote stitched bezel?..the back
could be suedecloth or leather, ...then you could bead the strap off of it!

i tried something like this a couple of times.
and then it dawned on me that i had just made it impossible for the
wearer to change the batteries.

Do you know of a lesson for something like that? Similar would work. I like
this idea better than not being able to change the batterys. :-)

Ah. the battery. Hm.

Ok, then what I'd do is make a bezel on a hunk of suedecloth or leather and
leave a flap on the back that you can lift and access the battery. like a
trapdoor!

Does anyone still make the kind of watch one winds? That would eliminate
that problem, and since it would be for special occasions it wouldnt be a
hardship to wind.

One of the teachers at my LBS teaches the peyote watch band.....
http://www.beadoholique.com/peyotewatchband.html.

I am not sure what it on the back of the watch face, but you can
adhere some suede so that the back can still be removed to change the
battery.

OH! oh!...

how's 'bout a band that that you slip under the watch head "pin", covering the
back with the leather, and then back up through the other "pin". Remember
those enourmous watches we used to wear in the 60's and 70's where the watch
head was snapped onto this monstrosity of a band?...like a big ole biker band,
sorta...

maybe that on a more delicate scale??

I don't know if they still make such things, but someone I once knew had a
self-winding watching. The general movement of the arm trips a mechnanism
inside the watch which winds it. If for some reason he didn't wear it for a
while, he'd put it on and rock his arm back and forth and it would wind. It
was an old watch, but it worked a treat. You could search ebay or an estate
jeweler.

That is something I was trying to picture in my mind too. How to do that
tho? I believe it Can be done, just not by me at this moment. :-)
Beginner's luck only stretches so far. Im going to consider the watchband
idea a bit longer, lets see what ferments.
Thanks everyone!
