knitting block

I can not get into my knitting or crochet, I don't even want to pick it
up or look at it.

It is summer time and fishing time, maybe a little gardening.

Any one else?

Hi Dennis/Gail,

I don't consider it a block as such - I too put my crochet aside about three
or four weeks ago, my present creative outlet is writing sound effect and
sound generator plug-ins for a sound editor. I felt burned out in October
last year, I thought I'd never touch the programming again. But here I am,
almost finished two of them. :-)

And I'll come back to my crocheting once again at some point! - I have found
over the years that I spend several months to a year on one creative
area, then switch to another, and so on...

So enjoy your fishing! :-)

My knitting was an excuse to sit down and listen to the radio play in the
afternoon. Recently I haven't cared much about either.

I've found an alternative - sitting for an hour before I go to bed, knitting
and being fed very good chocolates by Spouse :-)

I have discovered that every few years, I switch from one creative
endeavor to another, and that's not a bad thing. I always make my way
back to my other "loves". For example, I used to knit and crochet a
LOT. Went off that eventually, worked as a pastelist and often sold my
work, wrote a bit, gardened a lot, and am now back to knitting again
but giving myself more challenges this time around. My friends are a
bit confused by this behavior, but I'm not! Variety is wonderful for
the soul! So have no fear....you will want to knit again, when you're
ready.

I'm glad this came up--I thought I was the only one. I often drop
knitting entirely in the summer, and have sometimes dropped it for years
at a time. Lately I've been writing a lot for my creative outlet as
well as reading a lot.

I think it could be due to the warmer weather. Who wants to sit with a
large warm object in their laps (other than a cat, that is g) when
it's warm?

I've noticed that my knitting changes as the weather gets warmer. I did
a bunch of sweaters in the cooler months and pretty much put socks on
hold, but now that the weather has been warming I've gone back to socks
and other smaller things.

I also abandoned knitting and crochet for a few years and focused on
counted cross-stitch. Once I finished the project I had started 5 years
earlier I switched back to knitting. This was 2 years ago. I haven't
had the urge to cross stitch since, even though I have tons of projects
I'd like to do.

That sounds perfectly normal to me Dennis and I can identify totally
with what Kim says. Until just before Xmas last year I hadn't knitted
anything for the best part of 3 years. It had all been crochet and
before that cross stitch.

Once I have finished knitting Jim's sweater I think I shall go back to
crochet for a while again. I have a lace tablecloth to finish and a
couple of ideas for crochet bedspreads, one of which will be using that
square you posted the pattern for last week - thank you :-)

I confess, I am weird. Summer is when I get the urge to knit. I can't tell
you how many summers I've sat in shorts and top, all super toasty under a
big blanket or sweater knitting like there is no tomorrow.

Maybe it's all the daylight that gets me going. ;-))

I am not into it, mainly because I am too busy studying. I
am still working on socks, though, because I can pick them
up and put them down whenever I have a bit of unassigned
time.
