Needle Help -- Dianne?????
OK -- one of the ladies over at RCTQ is going to do some big stitch quilting
with perle cotton. I have told her to go to her LNS to look at perle cotton and determine which size she wants to use. She wants to know whaty type of needle to use. Now, you ALL know that I don't know the needle names -- sorry. I told her one with a sharp point and a large enough roundish eye to accommodate the size perle cotton. So -- what's the name of a needle that as a sharp, pointy end and a roundish eye? CiaoMeow ^;;^ .. Round-eyed needles - with a size large enough to accomodate pearl
cottons - might be a tad too long for quilting. I'm thinking darning needles. I don't think sharps at all. The biggest I have on hand is a 5, and that's not near big enough. For quilting, her best bet would be a chenille. Shorter, stouter, like tapestry only with points. She may find a crewel/embroidery large enough in a size 3 or 5. But again, the length might not suit a quilter. Dianne Tia Mary-remove nekoluvr to reply wrote: OK -- one of the ladies over at RCTQ is going to do some big stitch quilting with perle cotton. Well, length might not be as much a consideration with this type of hand quilting as with regular hand quilting. The stitches are a LOT bigger than what is customary with most hand quilting and you don't load as many of them on the needle as you do with regular hand quilting. I will copy your post (with proper citing, of course) to the quilting group. that way, the person interested will have all the info and be able to try different types of needles out. thanks bunches -- I KNEW the Needle Queen would come through with the info :-))! I just wanted to pop over from r.c.t.quilting and say Thank you to Tia Mary and Dianne. I was lurking around that conversation and as I am starting to do Sashiko, I was interested also. So THANK YOU! *smiles demurely* Elena in Texas, USA |

I did a search at google. Truly lovely quilting. I was recently
introduced to Kogin - also used to put more than one layer of fabric together, but done differently than Sashiko - from what I can tell. These are new areas for me. Kogin is "more at" darning patterns. Dianne Tia Mary-remove nekoluvr to reply wrote: From: "Elena" ...... Now that you are starting to do Sashiko, you need to hang out here a bit more. There are several people here who also do it. Kim, the woman I got my supplies from, lived in Japan near an area where it was done a lot. She sent me some great supplies too! Also, we'll be able to help you with links for places to get supplies, etc. CiaoMeow ^;;^ .
