I've been quilting since 1996 and I'm working hard on improving my

and quilt on a new Brother I purchased two years ago. I love jewel

I'm Loren, I live in Seattle, I've been around RCTQ for at least a few
years g but mostly now I lurk. True confessions, last year my 8 year
quilting obsession slipped back into a bit of a knitting obsession (I
did knit first) but that didn't stop me from asking DH for a new sewing
machine for Christmas. Yep, now I get to quilt on a brother PQ1500s!

I'm properly addicted to chocolate (the darker the better) -- would
only give it up if I had to choose between that and coffee. Have 2
DD's 11 & 13, 2 canine QI's, a pretty darn good DH (see christmas gift
above).

I think you can visit a few of my quilts and family on the picture site
of yahoo, try http://photos.yahoo.com/loren2

Any other knitting quilters out there?

It only seems two minutes ago that I 'delurked and introduced myself,
but perhaps I'd better do it again to be in with the others!

Retired to the Suffolk coast in England three years ago from
Nottingham. Two big children, neither still at home - Richard - gosh
he's 30 now, single, works in computers (thank goodness!) and Rachel,
34 who lives with her partner on the south coast. DH Mike is into
ornithology in a big way - birdwatches, rings birds for migration
stats, does conservation work, so I am left to stitch! (and garden).

Computer I is Hodge who is also QI. He is hoping I will finish the
king-size soon. Am also doing two lap quilts - had a look at them
yesterday, a good think and then put them away. But I have decided
what I'm doing when I get them out again!

Have sewed for ever, lots of embroidery, but only started quilting
when my sister died and left me her board, rotary cutter, lots of bits
and pieces and small stach. She only had one or two bits unfinished
(cushions) but I thought I would learn to use the board and cutter,
and so here I am with almost a kingsize quilt, lots of unfinished
embroideries, and a garden wating hopefully!

Not very good photos on
http://community.webshots.com/user/sallyswin

but when the sun comes out will take big quilt outside and do it
properly (maybe with two lapquilts too?)

I am going to tack on to Ally since I am her friend and another UKer.
I am Shirley with several aka's of Madame Faberge and Madame Tassel
Originally joined this group about 6 years ago, introduced by Connie D.

I beaded the centre panel for the Enschede Disaster quilt. I have not
done any proper quilting but I have a pile of stuff. Just waiting for a
good fairy to come and sort my workroom out.

I live in Derbyshire, married, recently celebrated my Golden Wedding in
Malta. Two grown sons and 3 grandchildren.

I am still doing beadwork.

I've been around since about '97 I recon, when I got my first computer.
Back then I used to handquilt little bits, but made my first whole quilt
that year for my first baby neice. I got my first sewing machine around
that time too when I realised how much easier it would be to peice with
oneG

8 years, twin neice/nephew, lots of quilts a bunch of new friends, and a
few trips to see some of you later, I am still here, though I dont post
so often these days.

I took a year off quilting for no particular reason other than I got
into jewelllery making, but I made a comeback last year and finished 2
UFOs the top of a new quilt and made 2 christmassy wallhangings.

This year I shall hit the big four-oh and am hoping to celebrate with a
quilt, a scrap book and maybe a trip overseas again.

There seem to be a lot of Lindas in this group. Were any of you part
of the "Linda Block Exchange" that we did many years ago - from a
quilt mailing list ? I lost my list of addresses during my first major
computer crash and changed my service provider since so I lost touch.

pretty well as that nick, so when I changed it was very subtle.

Hello, my name is Jo, and I have fabric addiction. I'm sure there's
a 12-step program somewhere out there for me... I'm trying
Stashbusters just now.
Okay, more facts. I'm Jo and I post under the name "Jo in
Scotland". I was living in Dundee, Scotland, when I started to read
and post to RCTQ and I thought there would be a plethora of "Jo"s. I
started life in Oregon, USA and lived there for 21 years. Then I
lived in Juneau, Alaska for 2 years, moved to England for 2 years
(near Cambridge, Manchester, Portsmouth), then moved to Dundee,
Scotland, where I've been for the last 7 years.
My mother made all of our clothes (except for shoes and underwear),
bedding, curtains and most of our toys. She made a few patchwork
quilts, which were very simple and tied - so I sympathise with all
those who tie their quilts. We loved those quilts, even though they
weren't the award-winning beauties that some folks make.
I didn't seriously making teddy bears and stuffed animals until I
moved to Alaska, and wanted to make things for my sister's (then
young) kids. I spent my free time reading about quilt making, and the
Amish (there are Amish back in my family tree). When I moved to
England, I spent more time reading about the different types of
patchwork & quilting, more time sewing things for my nieces and
nephews (I have 17, and 4 great-nieces); but it was the move to
Scotland that made me really want to jump in and make quilts and read
& post to a newsgroup. I have read every book on textiles that Dundee
has in any of the 4 main libraries, and the library of Duncan &
Jordanstone art college. Ah, for an afternoon in the corner of the
library on a rainy day....
I like the piecing part of a quilt more than the quilting. I prefer
machine quilting to hand-quilting, because hand-quilting reduces my
left hand to a bloody stump.
My favorite colors are royal blue and blood red, and my favorite
prints are stripes! or stars! Now stars on blue or rainbow stripes
make my heart sing. Many of the "children's" fabrics make me happy,
and I love bright colors. Having said that, I love blue in any form
and have many "country color" prints, especially in blue.... they go
with denim so well.
I like traditional patchwork patterns, I used to hate hand applique
but have since made friends with that technique (machine doesn't have
that blind stitch), and don't really like the "chunky" look of most
paper-pieced blocks (though at least I know how to do it now!).
I really enjoy learning new techniques and new time-saving tricks.
There is something very satisfying about making 4 Flying Geese in one
go. I do so love Flying Geese - as nzl* knows!
My QI is Sasha, a Seal-point siamese who was born in Oregon (like
me) and has traveled all over with me - Alaska, England, Scotland -
but stayed at home when I was in Russia recently. We don't want the
Russian kitties to laugh at her accent. It occurred to me the other
day that she has spent most of her life in Scotland, since she is 11
now and we've been here 7 years. She still doesn't say, "Ach mau!"
quite the way the other cats do.
http://www.scampi.pwp.blueyonder.co....e/Jo_page.html
I think that's enough info for now.

Ok.. any form of chocolate will do. :-) Happy Birthday Mr. Taria :-))

And yes, she isn't allergic to the dogs, but I had to start making their
food a couple of months back.... it's a good thing they are cute and
old.... and snuggle my feet when I'm cold!!! Not to mention the sheepie
sings really well. :-)
