ROFLMAO I knew this was SPAM before I ever opened it - come on Gals,
you knew it too!

What quilter in their right mind would say, "New to the
hobby"?????????

It would be more like, "My new addiction" - or, "Another one hooked"

Quilting is NOT a "hobby"

I have to tell you gals a funny, I took my mother (well, I was having
withdrawals and post surgery I can't drive for the next two to three
weeks so I begged her to drive me to my LQS) so anyway, I get mom into
the quilt shop for the first time. Ok, she's a knitter. She used to
sew when I was a little kid. She loves to look at quilts and she
appreciates what they involve and she's darned impressed that I have
the talent and capability.....yada, yada, yada - but I know you gals
have seen this happen

she walks in....... her breathing pattern changes rapidly.........the
eyes get very large, pupils dilate..........she is awe struck by all
the fabrics being organized by color....................she is
enthralled by all the different shades of red..................and
then all the different shades of purples...................and then
she sees all the baby quilts.................and then she sees a huge
Amish quilt hanging on the wall................and then she begins to
mutter uncontrollably..................then when words start coming
out of her mouth again, they are just this repetitive refrain......
"Tina, this is an awful store. Tina, this store is just awful. Tina,
why do you come in this store. Tina, I'm so glad I'm not a quilter,
I'd spent every last dime I had on fabric. Tina, why did you bring me
to this store. Tina, this store is just awful. What a terrible store,
how do you keep from buying everything. Oh look at this baby stuff
Tina. Oh my. Oh my Tina this is a terrible store." As the LQS local
regulars watched, and listened to mother drivvle on....big smiles
began to spread across their faces, the knowing looks were exchanged,
the winks to me.........

My mother's bill was larger than mine when we left the LQS, she's
signed up for the newsletter, the email list, the sales flyer, the
frequent buyers card, the class schedule, the guild
meetings.......................................... ...................

another one bites the dust.....she just could never
understand............. it is definitely NOT a "hobby"

hugs to my fellow addicts

Default CLARIFICATION/WAS New to the hobby

*sigh*

You're right ... not a single quilter I know (even the newbs) calls it a
"hobby."

But for the record, hubby DOES call it a hobby ... but never if I'm within
earshot!!

I just LOVE your story!! I tried the same with my mom ... and only managed
to talk her into buying an SM - and then we moved 'bout 2000 miles before I
could teach her to quilt. I don't know if that machine was ever taken out of
it's box! Chances are, she sent it off to Goodwill ....

But, really, that's what I'd always hoped for with my mom!! I am so happy
for you!! That is truly a dream come true!! Just beautiful!!!

Happy dancin' for Tina!!
(((((((Tina)))))))

Hugs!!

Default CLARIFICATION/WAS New to the hobby

I heard that word 'hobby' back in the summer. Fellow said his wife was
going to be miserable when she retired because she didn't have a hobby like
mine. He seems to equate quilting with making baseball caps out of empty
beer cans. (I've seen it done.) Anyhow . . . I didn't defend or attempt to
educate him. Just not enough there to work with. Polly
