news from our new home
I was excited to receive 140 posts from this group tonight. Of course
it had been a month since I had checked but so glad the numbers are back. Sometimes after several days I would only receive 5 or 6 posts. To be honest I stopped checking because so few were arriving. I need to tell you about our very busy summer. After Mom died in May of 2012 we began to think it was time to downsize. In November we bought a townhouse near our son and his family (an hour north west of our home). We started de-cluttering and doing some maintenance getting the house ready to put on the market. We also prepared the townhouse by having new floors installed and the entire interior painted. We planned to list the house with a realtor June 1st thinking we would have at least the summer to wait for a sale. In late May our neighbor asked if we still planned to sell the house because their friends were looking for something in the neighborhood. The friends really liked the house and didn't quibble about the price. They had already sold their house and wanted to move right away. Three weeks later we had moved! The movers commented that we didn't have very much clothing or furniture but we sure had a lot of boxes. Those boxes were filled with my husband's books and my fabric and antique quilts. I gave away a lot of fabric but kept enough to last several lifetimes! The lower level of the townhouse is my studio with a hide-a-bed in one corner just in case someone wants to spend the night. I treated myself to a sewing station from Tracey's Tables. It is so nice to have the machine inset into the top of the table. The square footage of the new studio is about the same as the old but there isn't as much storage in other parts of the house where I used to stash fabric. Everything quilt related must live in this space. My husband will be retiring sometime early next year. He goes to the office two days a week and works from home the rest of the time. Without yard work or maintenance to do on the week ends we are having fun exploring the new area and spending time with the grandchildren. There are three good quilt stores within twenty minutes of the new location just in case I run out of fabric. Susan |

Congratulations that you and DH made it through all of that and both didn't
arrested for domestic violence. Wow. My money is on your finding creative ways to store fabric. To begin, you can hang quite a few yards beneath your winter coat and some under towels in the guest bathroom. You'll find places. Polly "Susan Laity Price" wrote in message ... And no "staging" or open houses to deal with - bonus! Your new place sounds just perfect for the two of you. How nice to have a new sewing table too. It is so great to have the machine flush with the table top. Enjoy that home and retirement! marcella |
