Finally I am starting to feel better so I just did a web search for olean and got only praise for the product...then...I did a search on olestra. Very interesting that you fund only praise for olean..... I remember when it first came out in 1997 and there was a warning on the bags of chips that pregnant women were not to eat foods made with olean as there was in increased risk of early labor!! I stay away from Wow chips because I already have gastro-problems, but everyone
in my family eats them, and not one of them ever became sick. I wonder if it's a matter of some people having a sensitivity which others (there obviously are others, because the things are still on the market) don't. Katrina L. |

Cheryl Isaak had some very interesting
things to say about OT...olean, olestra problems: On 1/7/04 7:17 PM, in article , "LTuros41" wrote: and that is why I don't eat Burger King fries for a long number of years. DD and I eat there 'cause she loves the chicken tenders, but neither us do more than taste the fries. You can get combos with onion rings instead of fries at the same price, and BK does do good onion rings, IMO. Well, Boo, now you know you can have a tasty snack to relieve your
constipation! -- Dannielle from NY http://www.beitzell.com/dannielle/index.htm "Boohoo1971" wrote in message ... I love potato chips and have been looking at the chips cooked in "olean" a brand name for olestra. There are half the calories in olean chips than regular. I got some, they were okay. In about 15 hours I started having major gastrointestinal problems. I spend most of the next day and a half, in the bathroom. Finally I am starting to feel better so I just did a web search for olean and got only praise for the product...then...I did a search on olestra. There were a number of things about it and is reported to have caused more medical problems than any other food since records have been kept. Before you try the chips or any product with either olean or olestra, I would suggest you run the google search on olestra. My last 36 hours have not been fun. You are a nice, helpful bunch and I would hate for any of you to have the problem I did. Boo |

and that is why I don't eat Burger King fries for a long number of years. They are fried in that stuff. Don't know if they still are, but they are still awful from what I hear. Linda Hmmm. I was very careful about the amount of chips I ate at one time when I first tried the chips using olestra (the warning was on the bag) but I've never had any problems with Burger King fries - other than gaining weight after eating too many of them. :-))) I've never met a potato I didn't like. :-))) I don't notice much of a difference between MacDonalds and Burger King - other than the fact that MacDonald's employees whine when I ask for something without onions and Burger King employees smile and say "no problem". :-)))))) We haven't had the money lately to go to either place, though I did spend a few dollars of my plasma money in December to buy value meals when they had their Cat in the Hat ornaments available. They look great hanging on my crooked tree. :-)) Liz from Humbug |

Another ingredient to watch out for (for similar reasons/reactions) is Sorbitol (the sugar in Velamints, I think). Known to have a "laxative" effect in some people (including myself, so I stay far away from Olean! I don't even want to know...) Sue |

But I do remember the big deal when MacD's went from the pure lard to less in their french fry oil. I hate their burgers, etc - but the fries still are sinful. In town, there's a French brasserie - open late - with the best Pommes Frites! Fun for late dinner post something in town. ellice |
