A metal square hoop would probably leave nasty "corner" marks in the
fabric and might even tear the fabric if the user pulled too hard. BDS2pds wrote: I wonder why they do not ever make square hoops? -- Brenda "Nothing...I got nothing for sale." |

Not to mention with a wooden one there would be tremendous stress at the
corners, causing them to come loose, I would think. Corners are awkward. It's much easier to slide a hoop to a new direction. I remember a Brazilian instructor stating emphatically that one should have the screw portion at 10:00 or 2:00 to avoid having threads get caught. I turn my hoop so often it really matters little which direction the clasp is. :-) Dianne Rhiannon wrote: A metal square hoop would probably leave nasty "corner" marks in the fabric and might even tear the fabric if the user pulled too hard. It was if she thought it would catch fire or something. Hmm...what's that burning smell? ;-) Becky A. |

I wonder why they do not ever make square hoops? You can get a square hoop - Hardwicke Manor from Germany. They're quite expensive. Wyndham Needleworks has 3 sizes: 6x6, 8x8 or 10x10, all 3/8" deep. http://www.wyndhamneedleworks.com There's no picture unfortunately. Alison |

When I used a hoop -- I always kept the screw at 10:00 -- that way if I was
early on in a project and was confused about finding my place, at least I knew which direction was which. -- Jere "Dianne Lewandowski" wrote in message ... "Becky Andresen" had some very interesting things
to say about Best tightest needlework hoop: *deep laugh* I had a friend who would flip out when she saw that my hoop wasn't at either the 10:00 or 2:00 position. It was if she thought it would catch fire or something. I prefer 12:00 myself. Marks the top nicely, and the way I work, the hardware's a lot more out of the way. -- "The universe is quite robust in design and appears to be doing just fine on its own, incompetent support staff notwithstanding. :-)" - the Dennis formerly known as (evil), MCFL |

I think paid less than what I would for a new one--if I remember right. I
think it's steel. "Joan Erickson" wrote in message ... Angel wrote: ... but I found an old hoop in an antique store that I love. It's metal the inner ring has cork and the outer ring is spring loaded--no brand name that I can find. These are the kind I use. My favorite one is the one my mother (now 83) used when she was a girl. As Dianne said, you can still buy these. I hope you didn't pay a lot for it! I'm not positive about this, and I should test my own, but the older ones I believe were made of steel and the newer ones from alumninum. You can tell by holding a magnet next to it. I was afraid to try any of them--perhaps the dishwasher--less likely to end
up with plastic stew. "Tia Mary-remove nekoluvr to reply " wrote in message ... From: "Angel" ..... I can't get my q-snaps to keep tension ...... Have you tried tightening up the snap part of your Q-snaps? there are loads of different ways to do this -- some options are to soak them in really hot tap water, put them through the dishwasher on the top rack, put them in boiling water for just a few minutes, put then in a bowl of water and "nuke" them for a very short time. I have never had to do this so I am not sure of times but have seen the posts from peopl who have and it obviously works and doesn't harm the snaps!!! CiaoMeow ^;;^ .
