Default OT - Alert Radio

Been up all night because of the weather here in Mississippi.

Several months ago I purchased an All Hazards Alert Radio made by
Midland. The cost was under 30 dollars.

I hate it when this thing goes off because of the loud alarm. I have
it sitting in the dining room and can hear it in my bedroom.

BUT...... I love it because I am alerted to flood waters, tornadoes,
severe thunder storms and even if there is a hazardous chemical spill
in my area.

It operates by electric or batteries. It also operates like a regular
alarm clock.

I am not affiliated with the company in any way. Just thought some of
you would like to know this radio is out there and does a great job.

Here we go again... tornado watch alert.

Where does it get the warnings? Is there a government Panic of the Day
radio station in the US?

National Weather Service.... for one.

And Emergency Broadcast System for another. Not sure what there might be
locally.

Yup. It's called NOAA -- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

http://www.noaa.gov/

Hearing the weather radio buzz sure beats hearing the roof blow off in the
middle of the night as a first warning. (Don't ask how I know.)

I got one of these for my mom who lives in Florida. It comes in very handy
during hurricane season. It works on electric or battery and I set it to
the local NOAA station using her zip code. Be safe, Kate!

We also have a Midland. Recommended by our favorite TV weather man.
First thing that happened. NOOA "tested" their broadcast equipment
and FORGOT to turn the transmitter back to on position. Whole of
Brevard county should have received alerts but did not. (Wind and
tormado). Problem fixed now and was not related to Midland.
Does make you feel more secure.

Hi Kate!
After the tornadoes that ripped through Florida just over a year ago, we
bought a NOAA weather radio. We do keep it in the bedroom and it does
occasionally wake me up, but I'm so glad to have that early warning
available if we need it. The only thing that bugs me is that it goes off
when the alert time is over too.... waking me up again! Small price to pay,
I suppose ;-)

My goodness, Kate -- not again! I sure hope you're all safe and that it
was a false alarm.
