White Buffalo Yarn Questions
I have done up some swatches from the White Buffalo I picked up on Monday,
and have had varying results when felting/fulling them. This White Buffalo is 6 ply and VERY thick. On the heather blue yarn, I cut it down to 3 plys (plies?) and knitted up my swatch. On the white and the grey mix, I used 6 plys. The heather blue fulled nicely, the other two, not so much. I'm going to try the white and grey mix at 3 plys and see if that makes a difference. I'm sure I read elsewhere on RCTY that white yarn does not full that well due to the chemicals required to make it white. Any thoughts? Shelagh |

The bleaching process strips the wool fibers of their scales. No
scales, no fulling. I don't know that I've seen bleached white White Buffalo. Also keep in mind that the tighter the gauge the less fulling you'll see because the fibers need to be able to move against each other. Then again, knit it too loosely and it won't full adequately either as the scales will glom up as much as they're going to, before the item fulls to your taste. I don't know if it's bleached, but it's a creamy white - more white than cream, if you get what I mean. As for gauge, I used size 10 US needles (8 mm) and approx 11 sts over 4", for all 3 swatches. Thanks for your info - I knew I could count on you (grin)!! I'll keep you posted as to any progress.
