Default S.E.A. Quilt Shop in Gulf Shores AL

Somebody here asked me a while back to check whether this shop was still
open, and it is, and I finally got around to visiting it yesterday. It is
really super -- a very large inventory of fabrics, notions, and books, all
at prices comparable to those I've seen at on-line stores.

The lady minding the store says that the lady who owns the shop has no
intention of ever closing it. She works as a dental assistant and, when she
retires from that job, she'll run the quilt shop full time.

The lady also told me that they get good business from quilting guilds from
around the country who come to Gulf Shores for a holiday and quilting
lock-in. They rent one of the big condos on the beach and line their sewing
machines up facing the big windows overlooking the Gulf. (Does that sound
great, or what?!) The guilds call ahead, and the shop hires extra staff to
greet the guilds on their arrival, and then the shop is just up the road
whenever the quilters need additional supplies.

A vacation idea for your guild?

A warning: There is an error in one of the Web listings for this shop. One
website gives an address on Canal Road that is actually a vacant easement
for power mainlines. The shop is on Cotton Creek Road, which is County Road
4. Call ahead to get directions (251-968-7327), as the shop is in a private
home 2.2 miles from the main highway into Gulf Shores (U.S. 59).

Oh my, EP, that sounds so wonderful. I'd like just now to be the one with a
SM facing the gulf running bobbins and putting in sharp new needles. We
just must jar Kate T loose from west Mississippi and put together a fun trip
together. Is this the year that the sweet quilters in Pensacola do a quilt
show? Polly

Hey Edna Pearl

That was me asking. Thank you so much for letting me know they are
still open. YEA.

Should Polly, you and I rent a condo for a week of quilting, eating
chocolate and just gabbing about quilting while the sun comes up over
the Gulf.

And Polly I think the Pensacola Guild is having a show in February but
not in the same place. Got to check on this.

This is a GREAT shop. My friend and I stopped in when we were staying
at Perdido Key, and were surprised at the selection and quality - we
thought we were going into someone's house, from the looks of the
outside!

Oh I don't know about that. When I drive east in the morning I see
the sun come up over the Gulf.

As for somewhere to go that's warm. Cancun is a good choice because
here in South Mississippi its cold also. Was talking to a friend in
Vancover B.C. last week and the only difference in weather was... she
was getting snow and I was getting rain. I was two degrees warmer
than she was.

So come on the Pensacola with Polly, Edna Pearl and I. But I must
warn you, Polly will keep you laughing so much you'll have to bring
out the Kleenex.

I'm broke, so don't book a bedroom for me. I can drive down for the day
whenever you say. My SM weighs a ton, so I'll try to get a quilt to the
point of hand-quilting by the time y'all decide to make the trip.

Yes, when you drive up to the house, it's just a house. But when you get
inside the shop, it couldn't be more professional! And roomy! It's really
great.

So is Gulf Shores :-) Now is the time to get a good deal on a condo, with
the town mostly empty except for the snowbirds and locals -- of which there
are many.

And I know the best restaurants!

Howdy!

Grew up 20 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, in s.Tx.; the
sun definitely comes UP over the Gulf. ;-

Still, it sounds like a nightmare, having to look at that broad expanse
of water. I prefer being in-land. The Gulf is prone to carrying in
hurricanes; been there, left it behind, no regrets.
60* in s.Tx., 70* by Sunday; you don't even need a passport. G

Happy New Year!

R/Sandy- let up on quilting to clear off the front porch, hose down the
muddy Welcome mats out in the yard; it's warm enough 52* ;-D

Unfortunately some of us do need passports and to deal with airport
security :-( DH & I are hoping to be able to put off air travel for a
bit until the latest insanity has calmed down.
