Default Karen, what have you people done????

Oh Sheena, I'm so disappointed. You mean you don't agree that the new
Governor of California is wonderful. After all, he certainly has a unique
way of pronouncing the name of the state he was elected to lead --
Caleeeeeefornia. Isn't that enough of an endorsement for you????

Lucille

p.s. If I hadn't addressed this note to Sheena I would definitely insert a
lot of smilies here.

At least our non-inhaling politician had the distinction of being a Yale
Graduate and a Rhodes Scholar. This one has the distinction of being a body
builder par excellence and just a tad sleazy. And, of course, there's the
things he said in the Oui article which he discounts because it was 30 years
ago. To my way of thinking once a sleaze always a sleaze. And to boot he's
a far right republican.
Lucille

Nope! I have a great deal of difficulty with people electing
Hollywood stars. Well I had difficulty with Regan as President to be
truthful. At least Karen has assured me there is no danger
Swartzenegger can be President being born Austrian. That's a real
relief.

Personally I can't think of a single well known star I could ever vote
for, these people are not in touch with reality! With Mr S at least
there is a new wrinkle. I see he says he groped a few females, he
thinks, he can't remember exactly. Does that equate to smoking but
not inhaling?

I guess it strikes me as so outrageous because we give our politicians
such a rough time here. I don't think Mr S would have been elected
here due to the many jokes that just fall off the tongue at the mere
thought of it. Besides which,he is hard right, so I could never
vote for him lol

Now take those smileys and do you know what with them lol

Normally, I wouldn't say a word - BUT - AS, the governor elect, is pretty
liberal on child welfare related issues, pro choice and other wise pretty
middle of the road. And far from stupid. 30 years ago, he'd have been a
conservative Democrat.

And he stopped groping after marriage!

Here's a link for the Oui article.
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/arnoldoui1.html

I warn you all--this is not for the "faint of heart." Apparently he wasn't
a particularly nice gentlemen and had a foul mouth at that time, but of
course a leopard can certainly change his spots, right? And I'm sorry but
some of the women who came forward to say he groped them were talking about
just a few years ago when he was married.

Unfortunately I can sympathize with those who don't much care for Arnie
because coming from Florida I am stuck with a Governor I don't like and his
relatives in the White House.

Oops, enquiring minds want to know, what did he say in the Oui
article?? Yes, body builder = steroids in my books = altered
person.

I am not knocking Billy for not inhaling, course he missed a
pleasurable experience though! Rhodes Scholar ? Well I have known a
couple that I would rather not have known, the Scholarship has
vicissitudes.

If I was going to go to a cottage for the weekend and could choose
Billy or Arnie - Billy every time, far more interesting, and just a
nicer person I believe. Then again, for weekends I also chose Fergie
over Diana so as you can see, I swim against the current.

bu-bu-bu-but, Der Arnoldt says he got a degree by correspondence from the
University of Wisconsin, so he are a kullidge graddyit. He was just too busy
to go to classes, because he was a big important Moofie Schtarr. Und too busy
inhaylink. Und chasing vimmin.

He now says he's not moving to Sacramento. He's just going to commute by plane
from Hollywood. He's got a biiiiiiig surprise coming if he thinks the Lege can
be remote-controlled, or that his job is only to make a cameo appearance long
enough to wave a machine gun at them. There's a lot of late hours pleading and
cajoling required, not just 30 seconds of threatening to terminate them, and
then go home to 600 miles away and leave the work to the hired help. No way do
I see him groveling and begging to get his bills passed. His ego's too big.

On inauguration day, I want to hear Gov. Davis say "I'll be baaaack!" He's a
graduate of Columbia University, where he at least actually showed up in
person, and the one thing he does really well is put in the extra time and
effort to persuade the Lege to approve stuff he wants. Got all the personality
of a cup of flour, but he does the politicking really well. And if he ever
toked or groped or got riproaring drunk, there were no witnesses to it. Not
even the best muckrakers have been able to find any skeletons in his closet,
and they've been at it for 30 years. His personal life seems to be
squeaky-clean. Still on his first wife, too.

I'm with Cheryl. Arnie is both highly intelligent, and far from being
"hard right." The National Review (traditional conservatives) wanted Tom
Whoosis.

I've been an Arnie fan since "Conan the Barbarian." His sense of humor,
and ability to laugh at himself, came through in that and many
subsequent movies.

And the fact that he has managed to keep his marriage and family out of
the tabloids says a lot about his values.

I think California will be pleasantly surprised by Arnie.

The only thing that makes me fret is that he wants to throw more money
at the schools. My thinking about that is: "Improve your performance and
I'll be willing to improve your pay." Not to mention getting the bias
and the outright lies out of the textbooks.

(Wait a minute - gotta get into my flame-proof suit) I'm soooo tired of
the constant "dissing" of "dead, white, Judeo-Christian males." Without
them, we'd still have slavery, the feudal system, oppressed women and
minorities, monarchies, etc etc etc. The "Western Tradition" is a damn
good thing.

This thread makes interesting reading. Just a comment on
inexperience. Some years ago, there was an election for Mayor of
Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, a small town on the St. Lawrence. One of the
candidates was an out of work guy, who had just graduated from university,
and could not find himself a job. He was both very young, and completely
without experience. Not only did he get himself elected, but he turned
out to be so good at the job, he was elected for a second term. I believe
after that he had made so many friends and contacts that he had no trouble
finding himself a really good job.

Actually, from what I'm hearing on NPR, he is NOT far right. He agrees
with pro choice, many other feminist issues, and is far left in other
issues. What he is "right" about is the economy. Being rich, that
doesn't surprise me. When you "have it", you do everything possible to
get more of it. When you "don't have it", you're too busy scrambling to
make it stretch, there's not much else they can do to you. (Not true,
but my mind isn't working to say it better).

Some commentators, both NPR and BBC, feel he was voted into office
because he was an outsider. People are sick and tired of professional
politicians. Jesse Ventura didn't fare all that well in Minnesota, and
recused himself from running. Arnold S will probably just fill a gap.
And he knows that, I'm sure. He is married to a political family, so I
don't think he's deaf, dumb and blind about politics.

I'm also reading that the Hispanic vote is turning things on their ear.
