Default Decisions, decisions...

I'm in the middle of machine quilting my francophone challenge quilt
(seen near the bottom of
http://home.earthlink.net/~sfoster1/wips.html). I've done the small
Lemoyne stars and the larger "main" blocks in a variegated blue Aurifil
thread. Now I'm debating the border: should I do it in black to match,
thus not detracting from the main body of the quilt; or should I
continue in the blue, trusting that it will all coordinate? I hate not
being able to make up my mind! Any suggestions?

I'd go with the blue.

I love this quilt. How very beautiful. And I'd go with your thought about
quilting with black on the border so as not to detract from those joyful
colors in your blocks. I have great respect for Kathy's quilting, she's
terrific. Er, umm. . .. I don't think I'm being very helpful so I'll just
slip away. Polly

Hullo Sandy
I can see that black would be very tempting - I would probably have
thought that too. However, I wonder about the practicalities of black?
sewing black on black is difficult, and any unpicking that might be
needed (do you ever need to, perhaps not!) would be awful. Unless,
perhaps, you found a shiny black, a rayon perhaps? That might be nice.
Ooh! I think I'll find one for myself now I've mentioned it g
There are also some lovely slightly variegated YLI threads (when I say
'slightly' I mean that the colours are of similar hue and value). I
have one which is black with a dark purply blue. I used it on a navy
and you can hardly see the colour at all - just the shape. So, it might
show more than black on black, but not a lot.

Its gorgeous and I think I'd go along with the majority here and do the
border in blue.

Hi Ally! You've all convinced me to stick with the original plan and use
the variegated blue.
