Default Staining putty

I'm restoring an old (1850's) oak window frame, and the original panes of
glass were puttied in (no sprigs). While the inside rebate is large enough
that no putty need show, I'm concerned that a modern putty will stand out a
bit on the outside

Can anyone suggest a method of staining putty to match the colour of the oak
frame (which has a tung oil finish). The match doesn't have to be perfect,
but what sort of thing might be good to start with?

TIA

Exterior window frames (sash) should be painted. The paint covers the
putty and seals the edge of the putty to the glass. If for some
resaon the sash is not painted you can tint the putty with color
pigment used to color cement.
