Name of Fabric
Hello Everyone:
I am trying to find out the name of a fabric which I noticed in fabric stores within the last year. Very pretty and it would be nice to make a blouse with it. It appears to be cotton with thin strips of elastic running through it so that each section is approx 1 inch wide with this elastic. Anyone have an idea what this fabric is called? B. ) |

Shirring is the process of gathering like this in stripes, either with a thread of elastic or with just a thread. -- Kate XXXXXX Lady Catherine, Wardrobe Mistress of the Chocolate Buttons http://www.diceyhome.free-online.co.uk Click on Kate's Pages and explore! |

Anyone have an idea what this fabric is called? Possibly "ruched"? A Google search using "ruched" brings up several sites selling garments with ruched detailing. -- Beverly ---to reply, delete no spam and .invalid--- |

B. ) I don't know if it has a special name, but I did buy a blouse made of it, last June at Burdine's in Orlando. The front of the blouse has the elastic every inch or so, horizontal, but the back is plain. So, I guess you buy the fabric, some with elastic, some without. -- Joanne @ stitches @ singerlady.reno.nv.us http://bernardschopen.tripod.com/ Life is about the journey, not about the destination. |

It sounds like the fabric we used to buy to make sundress tops for little
and not-so-little girls. Just add about an inch seam width and measure around the largest part of the top of the body and gather the straight fabric to it as the skirt. Add ties on the shoulders. Makes very cute dresses. All my DDs and nieces have worn them and loved them. Emily |
