Default Hello Post

Hi

I've posted a couple of times but been mainly lurking for a couple of
months.

I've been knitting since my Mum taught me when I was little, unlike a
lot of you I only knit from patterns but I pride myself that given the
pattern I can knit anything.

My Mum has never been able to crochet (except square plain blankets
which she showed me) so I couldn't either but I decided I wanted to
learn how to crochet "like my Granny used to" as we have a couple of
doileys about 50 years old that she made (I never knew her as she died
when I was a baby).

With the wonders of the internet I started my quest a couple of months
ago and found this group and searched for websites to help me.

The first thing I learnt was that the USA use different names for
stitches and needles sizes to the UK! That confused me for weeks until I
found some easy to understand conversion charts. I think I've finally
cracked it, I'm now on my 6th doiley but still have problems getting my
picots to come out in the right place. I'll get it right with a bit more
practice!

Find of the month was this website
http://www.angelfire.com/folk/celtwich even though I have to convert
them to a "UK" version before using the patterns.

Oh, and the blanket my Mum showed me how to make... ? I've discovered
that they are just groups of three trebles in each round with the next
round of trebles being between the ones in the previous round and I even
know where I went wrong so that my square blankets were actually spirals
and not squares IYKWIM?

I CAN DO IT!! Woooo Hooo! For the first time in almost 50 years I've
managed to impress my Mother by doing something she can't :-)

Millie in the UK - feeling dead chuffed at the moment.

Hello Millie, and welcome from a bright, beautiful and sunny if windy Kent.
Where in UK are you? And if I'm invited I'd love to join you, Mirjam and
Ophelia in a cup of coffee, while all our Transatlantic friends are still in
the land of nod!!

Hi Christine,

I've only got time for a quick one. I'm just writing my shopping list
then I'm off for my weekly visit to Asda while the washing's doing. It's
lovely and sunny here in Bristol too, just the weather for drying
washing outside. What ever happened to lazy Sunday mornings?

Millie
